Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I have a couple questions for you guys. I have went through most of the threads and have a few concerns.

Did anyone ever have trouble with local hospitals allowing clinicals?

Does this college qualify you for Student Loans/Grants?

What is the typical cost?

Thanks!

GeriL

I had to knock on a few doors before finding the right hospital for me, so there is a bit of work involved in finding a facility. It can be done though, and there are plenty of Deaconess students to prove it. Some find their place easier than others, but just be informed and persistent and you will find one too. Depending on where you live, it could be helpful to contact a Tenet Hospital (if there is one near you), as Deaconess College is owned by Tenet, it could help you get a foot in the door.

As far as finanical aid, Deaconess students are eligible for Federal Student Loans and Grants (Stafford, Pell, etc.).

The current cost of Tuition at Deaconess is $435 per credit hour.

Federal student loans will only cover a fraction of that.

Federal student loans will only cover a fraction of that.

Speaking from EXPERIENCE as a Deaconess Student who is depending on Stafford Loan money to pay tuition...My federal loan is covering 70% of my Nursing tuition costs.

I apologize for the mistake. What I meant to refer to were pell grants, which one does not have to pay back.

Yes, you can find aid if you look hard enough for it. Also, some employer's also offer tuition benefits. As far as finding a clinical site, it can be done. Like Cheri said, persistence pays off.

Good Luck

I am so glad to hear that financial aid will cover some of the costs. I am eligible for Pell, Sub and Un-Sub through the government.

So they have strict admission guidelines? What exactly are they looking for? I have never taken SAT or ACT so I would need to take on of those..

You guys are so much help...

I'm in my 4th semester at Deaconess and between the Stafford Sub and Unsub it has covered all of the tuition. I did have a Pell the first semester. I've only had to spend money on books.

My score on the ACT (which I took 32 yrs ago!) wasn't really good, so they had me take the HESI. You can ask them about that.

I will get some questions together and give them a call. I finished my GED about 2 years ago and scored really high on everything, 80-85% above others that have taken it.

My concerns are:

1. Only having a GED

2. No prior college

Gerilynn,

I used my 12 year old SAT scores, my GED, and my CC transcripts when applying.

GED is fine and prior college should not be an issue, but I am sure that ACT or SAT scores will be needed and have the greatest weight in your position.

Best of luck and let us know if we can help further.

Geri,

Whether or not the school considers the SAT/ACT has to do with your prior college credits. Most schools don't consider SAT/ACT if you have over something like 24 credits.

In all actuality, SAT/ACT scores are not very weighted if you are an older individual with school/work/life experience.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, not exactly. You will still have to pay back those loans.
