My own personal story.. Last night took my son to the local "after hours doc in the box" with a temp of 105.4 rectal "he is 2". Temp has been going on for a couple days but couldn't get it down last night. Well at the minor emergency clinic we look him over for 2 hours can't find anything wrong with him. No UTI, red throat, cough, runny nose just really high fever. So Dr. tells me to have him to the local ER "just in case". I take him in and the nurse is rolling her eyes at me and seems bothered that I even was in the ER. I told her everything that the other Doc had done and said and she said "I guess he didn't think of a viral infection" and rolled her eyes again. So after 5 1/2 hours half a bag of fluids "he wouldn't eat or drink", blood culture, CBC, chest X-ray, the Dx is Pneumonia. Shot of Rocephin and a Rx for more antibiotics and we were on our way. So in your opinion was this a ridiculous thing to bring him in for? I didn't get a chance to talk to the first nurse again to see if her attitude changed any. I am still going my pre-nursing classes, so I don't know if pneumonia is a serious enough thing for ER. :imbar Thanks you all!! :imbar

Jenny, I don't think that it was inappropriate. It just happens to be a part of working it that department. I think it possibly has something to do with drainage pooling. That is just a guess. I am starting the BSN program in Spring and will have lots to learn. I think that all of the nurses that work in the different ICU's are amazing people. There was one nurse that was excellent. My sister was in the Trauma ICU for about 2 days, so I didn't get chance to get to know her. My sister had just graduated from nursing school in Florida and got her nursing in the mail the day of the accident. Vivian my sisters nurse told my mom that nurses are sisters and that they take care of each other. This really touched my mom, she is also a nurse. The Dr. came out on New Years eve and confirmed what I was thinking, that she was not going to make it. Her ICP pressures were like 180 by time Dr. did rounds. Vivian allowed family/friend back to allow us to say goodbye. My sister had wanted to be an organ donor so we had to wait a couple more hours to speak with them. In the mean time Vivian had given my mom her badge so she could go back and see my sister when she wanted. She also had moved my sister over in the bed and let me mom get into bed with my sister and hold her one last time. I am so grateful for her doing that. You all are very amazing people. Geri

My sister was recently in a Motorcycle accident and didn't survive it. When we were saying our good byes, the nurse warned us of a smell when we were near her head. What was this from? I didn't hear what she had said at the time, and I haven't been able to much out on the internet what it was from. Thanks! Geri

I understand that I will infact have to pay back the loans. That is not an issue at all. My husband went to Boise State University has a degree in micobiology, and works as a microbiologist. His 4 years of school totaled around 30k in student loans. I think that i can handle the 20 something for an RN degree. Pretty sad that he has 4 years of schooling, employed as a microbiologist for 6 years, and I am eligible for a pell grant. I would make more starting out as an RN then he makes now.

I will get some questions together and give them a call. I finished my GED about 2 years ago and scored really high on everything, 80-85% above others that have taken it. My concerns are: 1. Only having a GED 2. No prior college

I am so glad to hear that financial aid will cover some of the costs. I am eligible for Pell, Sub and Un-Sub through the government. So they have strict admission guidelines? What exactly are they looking for? I have never taken SAT or ACT so I would need to take on of those.. You guys are so much help... Geri
