Anyone familiar w/working at Deaconess? I'm looking for feedback. Am considering going into the cardiac step down there. Thanks in advance. Would like general info, salary/union info, benefit and any other feedback from working experience you may want to give good bad or otherwise.

again, from personal experience at deaconness in the cardiac icu there, they have to be the most unfriendly, unsociable, rotten individuals that i have ever worked with. they have chased so many new nurses away from the unit, it isn't funny. i am one of them. i worked there for 5 months about 17 years ago, and told them to take this job and shove it. it is a very unfriendly place to work. they have a narrow, small minded attitude and mentality, and resent anyone who comes from another area, larger units, and have more education than they do. deaconess was a diploma program for many years, and is now closed. as i said, they chase away anyone who goes to work there from larger cities, and/or hospital. wow! guess you hated deaconess! i loved it! i worked there from 1985-1990, and found it to be an interesting job and a great group of people. (yes, in the ccu.) i found my coworkers to be friendly, pleasant, socialble, knowlegeable and hard-working. even though i came from another area and from a large and world famous medical center, they treated me with respect rather than resentment. i didn't find anyone who resented my education, either. nor did i notice, during the 5 years i was there, anyone getting "chased away" because they came from a different area, larger hospital or had education. i did notice, however, a few people who came in with know-it-all bad attitudes and an unwillingness to pitch in and work who didn't last very long. perhaps you were in that latter group?if the op wants to live in spokane for some reason -- likes the city, the climate, husband has a job here or a transfer to fairchild afb -- deaconess is a great place to work. (at least, it was when i was there.)i loved spokane's climate, as well. it wasn't a great place to be single -- you just never saw any other single people there -- and that's why i finally left. but when i was married, i really enjoyed the city. i have friends there still.i loved seattle as well, and am still homesick for the beautiful northwest. but alas -- my new husband's daughter lives in maryland with her mother, and until she's through college, we're stuck here. i hope to get back to the northwest some day!ruby

Thanks for the feedback RE spokane nursing/Deaconess. I was the OP. I'm now looking at a job at St Lukes Rehab. Yes, I wanted to move back b/c it's my 'home' as far as I know it, I was there for 10 years before going 3 hours away to nursing school b/c it's where i got in. And, the ex is there and he says he's finally willing to help with the kids...etc..so... may as well give it a try. If I can find the right pay/shift that is... So yes, there are other reasons to return. I thought your comment on no single folks in spokane kind of funny....there are tons of single people there...divorce is just as high there as anywhere! :) Now if you are lookin' for a single/never married well then yeah you may have some issues when you are in the middle aged group that I'm in! God provides.... even husbands if they are due! ha!
