DEA in each state

Hi,

I am a new NP and this all is confusing. If I want to practice in 2 states, do I need to have a separate DEA? My understanding is yes. However, does this mean I have to pay $888 twice? I practice in MA and CT. Thank you!

If you want to prescribe controlled substances in both states, YES, you will need 2 different DEA registrations and will have to pay $888 TWICE, unless you work for the federal government, in which case they'll cover it. And he sure to secure your collaborative physician prior to applying or you risk saying buh-bye to your precious $888.... remember, NO REFUNDS!!

Most employers will cover your DEA fees. You definitely to have a DEA license in the state you’re prescribing in, not sure how it works if you’re practicing in two states, but I will say the DEA has been super responsive via email for any issues I’ve had so I would ask them how to go about this.
