DEA Registration

I have a question regarding the DEA "Federal" registration. I live on the border of a state and recently obtained a position that has an office on the bordering state as well. I realize I need to have a state NP license for both states but heard that I also need to apply for a DEA registration for each office as well because its another state. Is this true? If so, then it really isn't a "federal" registration is it?

Seems like a way to get more $$

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunatly you need one for each state.

here is a refrence from their web site http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drugreg/faq.htm#4

Question – Are separate registrations required for separate locations?

Answer – A separate registration is required for each principal place of business or professional practice where controlled substances are stored, administered or dispensed by a person. If a practitioner will only be prescribing from this additional location located within the same state, then an additional registration is not necessary.

I do locum tenens and I just transfer my DEA to each new location. If you work in 2 states at the same time then yes, you have to have 2 DEA's. And Yes, its a way to get more money.. Thankfully I had my company pay for it, and if I ever need 2, then I will request it to be paid for.. If your employer requires it, then they should pay for it.
