4 days off/week with no kids :)

Published

I know that most people would love for this to be their problem and I apologize if this offends people...

I work 3 12s a week. My husband and I are trying for kids but aren't having any luck so far. So besides shuttling myself off to the fertility clinic quite frequently I don't have a whole lot to do on my 4 days off. And I feel like I'm spiraling into a bit of a depression with so much time on my hands. Most of my friends work "normal" jobs so are not around during the week (and I work 12s every other weekend). I think my down in the dumps mindset lately is because I am basically devoid of human contact 4 days a week. My nursing friends are often on the days I'm off (we are on the same unit).

So those of you without family responsibilities... what do you do with your 4 days off each week? I really don't want another job (because when the weather is good I do like to get out and hike/ski and I don't want to be tied down).

First world problems, huh ;) ?

I'm not even married and I have no problem staying busy. Go to the gym. Go for a hike in someplace new (making sure someone knows where you are- I'm not talking hard core hikes- maybe ask a coworker to meet you). Try a new deep cleaning hack from Pinterest. Try a new recipe and spend time browsing the grocery store to get the ingredients. Look at ads and coupons to find the best deal for something. Learn something new: to play an instrument or to draw or to speak a foreign language or photography! Meet one of your coworkers for lunch even if you have to drive a bit of a ways. Pick up OT or a per diem job so you'll have loads of money to get the baby's room ready.

I have several hobbies that eat up lots of spare time; I also think they help with my tendency toward depression--if I don't have something to occupy my time, I get kind of down in the dumps.

I spend lots of time with my horse, I crochet, I am trying to learn to play the guitar. Those things take up enough of my time that I don't get bored or depressed.
