Hello all----I have been working amonsgt the nighters for about a month now...or so. I have a question...on your days off, do you sleep...in? alot?

as in, it is 1145 here and I am having my first cup of coffee and I am still in my nightgown.....and I even went to bed at 1100 or 1200 last night...that's a lot of sleep! I am feeling like such a a drag-a$$.

How's a gril supposed to get herself to be motivated to go work out or do fun stuffs??

:zzzzz i love my bed:zzzzz

I work 12 hour shifts and dont do well with nights at all. Im ok with 2 in a row,, but that 3rd just kicks my butt. I have put foil on my bedroom windows(my husband calls it my cave), use earplugs and have been able to get a little more sleep now that the kids are older. But on average if i work nights i need about double the sleep i need if working days.

I don't work "nights" but I work evenings, which to me is 3p-3:30a. I get home around 4, mess around on the computer, watch some TV and get in bed around 6a. I just can't go to sleep after a 12. I usually work 3-4 days in a row, and that first day off is a complete waste. One time, I slept 15 hours straight. Okay, it's a little excessive, but I consider sleeping one of my hobbies! lol It's hard working weird hours, then when you have 3 days off, everyone expects you to jump on their schedule. My husband gets annoyed if I sleep past noon on my days off. Anyway, you're not alone.., I gotta get some sleep!!:zzzzz

Yes yes people get sooooo annoyed! Can't they understand that it is hard to switch back and forth and back and forth all the time?

My "day" starts at 4PM! I am not "lazy". It is not "late" That is LIFE AS A NIGHT NURSE! lol

People cannot understand why after working 12hours on a friday night I cannot make their Saturday 12:30pm bbq or kid's party.

gimme a break! Once my fiance said, just don't sleep and come upstate to the party.

WHAAAAAAAAAA????????????????????????????? lol I sent him on his merry way to the party ALONE.

I have been on nights for 2 years and have never adjusted! If I am not at work I sleep. ( of course I'm pregnant, too..) I rarely do anything fun, and when I do, I am a zombie. Yet, some of my gal-pals at work seem to be able to pull off somewhat normal lives. They tell me either ya have it or ya don't! After my baby is born, I have vowed never to work another night shift again.

You should get together with TeeItUp Tom....you both seem to be golfing enthusiasts! :chuckle Seriously though, you make use of your days off well. I never have any problem recovering from nights....usually just sleep two hours after my last one then usually jump on a horse and go for a ride.

Good Luck getting adjusted JoyRochell! I agree with keeping the same schedule on your days off as much as you can. Occasionally I use a natural-light box (the kind used to counteract seasonal affect ) when coffee isnt enough. Nightshift nurses are the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to work with!

i'VE WORKED NIGHTS FOR THE PAST 7 1/2 YEARS, FIRST ON 11-7, THEN 7P-7A. USUALLY I WORK 3 NIGHTS IN A ROW, AND TO KEEP FROM TOTALLY LOSING MY FIRST DAY OFF TO SLEEP, I TAKE A NAP WHEN I FIST GET HOME. THAT'S ENOUGH TO LET ME GET THROUGH THE DAY, AND I GO TO BED AT A "NORMAL" TIME. AFTER MY OFF STRETCH (USUALLY 3 DAYS), I SLEEP IN, PIDDLE AROUND THE HOUSE A WHILE, THEN GO TO BED FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE GOING IN TO WORK. BASICALLY, DURING MY WORK STRETCH, MY HUSBAND IS TOTALLY IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING :kiss ALL I DO IS WORK AND SLEEP. MY WORK SCHEDULE IS SUCH THAT EVERY OTHER WEEK I'M OFF 6 DAYS OUT OF 7, AND THAT'S WHEN I "HAVE A LIFE":roll THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYBODY - WE ALL HAVE TO FIND THE SYSTEM THAT WORKS FOR US. AND THEN TRY TO KEEP WITH IT.

GOOD LUCK!!:D
