Is anyone following the Davita - Lufkin, Texas fiasco. Am interested in your opinion?

I think she's being a scapegoat for bad management. If that clinic used Cobe machines which are bleached daily to include the "who's" which utilize pulling up bleach in a syringe to do. Cobe's also have bleach bottles attached to the back of the machine which pulls the bleach in during clean mode. Guilty of not following procedure to ensure bleach residual is checked everytime maybe but murder? I'm out till all the evidence is in. I honestly cant see any motive for a mother of two to randomly commit murder. I worked for Davita and left for those very reasons as I felt my license was on the line every day I walked in the door.

I also believe that there is more to this story than what is being told. Apparently, this nurse had not had any previous problems with her nursing performance so why risk her nursing career & prison time now?

A couple of my pts (and techs) emphasize that a nurse tried to poison her pts with bleach. I just give them a look :icon_roll
Anyone who has any information regarding Davita units, esp Lufkin, should contact the attorney - Ryan Deaton. This unit had problems long before this alledged incident.
The facility used 2008K machines.

Drawing up bleach into a syringe?!?!?! That's just wrong on all levels. We have worked in every setting and seen some very dangerous nurses and techs; but never seen drawing up bleach. We would like to know more specifics in this case. Anyone know where we can obtain actual documentation from this case?

If you worked with COBE machines, you would have had to draw up bleach in a syringe if the "WHO" (internal drain) was contaminated with RBCs.
For more info and discussion of this case, see this thread in the "News" section of this board:

Yes, I am from Lufkin and they are asking for the death Penalty. The trial is not until April 2010. I spoke with a nurse that was there and she said it really happened. If so, I hope she gets the death penalty. These patients put their lives in her hands. What a shame she abused their trust.
How does this nurse know it really happened? Did she witness such? Whatever happened to 'innocent until proven guilty by a court of law'? Does one have to wonder if there were two witnesses (patients) why they did not yell when they observed such? More to the story than meets the naked eye.
And if she witnessed enough to say "it actually happened" and didnt intervene then that nurse is also guilty. I agree with nurseadvocate. Many people like to boost that they know something more then the other person. I've worked for this company and others and see on a daily basis too many shortcuts so until all the info is in.....let due process be the judge.
