A few of us are flying to DFW next week for Academy. I keep seeing referrals to "2 day drunkfest" on here; could I get some details? I am under the understanding that the first day lasts ALL day long (till after 10pm) and we fly home immediately after the second day is over. Is it a learning experience, or just "this is how we operate". Is there really that much alcohol involved, or am I being too literal in reading that? Any info much appreciated. I kinda like to know what to expect. Also, I gather dress is very casual. Am I right?

THanks!

Personally, I havent been to anything job related to Davita in which they didnt ensure there was plenty of alcohol for the guest to enjoy. Some overdo it some dont. As far as the "Academy", I felt it was more of a 2 day brainwash to enforce the "Davita Way" cult attitude. I didnt enjoy watching a 40 year old CEO doing backflips or running around like he was one of the "Three Musketeers" (more like 3 stooges in reality). More game play then anything. If you have been to the Davita Prep then you know they love thier "games". I think it was a waste of money that could have been utilized more into other things units need and desire. I know they had posted on UTube video of the academy that wasnt desireable and Davita made them remove it with threats of a court room (2006). It was mostly of the drunken escapades of attendees.

THanks for the reply. I havent been to Davita Prep yet, am scheduled for that 1st week of March. I'm looking forward to that, the learning part of it; but not as much the Academy. I'm more excited about the flying there and back than I am for the Academy. I love to fly!! :) How sad is that? I'm not really a drinker, so I guess I'll be laughing or disgusted at other people's expense. I wondered about the "3 musketeer thing"...I saw some exerpts in the videos I had to watch during orientation. I do agree, the money spent on the academy does seem like it would be better off spent on the clinics/staff instead. Thanks again for the reply.

academy was silly. reinforcing the idea that Davita is a "village" and we all wrk together for the common good. yea right. how bout giving me some of that common good as a bonus, KT? I know you made 7 million last year. What did I make? not that much.

7 million?? He made $27.8 million for 2007 total compensation package! Not that I begrudge a Harvard grad making his living but at the expense of patient safety there I have an issue. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/12/IPFN.html I left Davita last month for a company that is now becoming thier competitor in this area and the differences in pt care/safety issues is like day and night. I'm now working with 6-7 staff on the floor rather than 3/4 for the same amount of patients. I'm not hearing "omg we're over our SWC for today, someone needs to go home now and come in late tomarrow" or finding the epo in the garbage because the lpn was too lazy to give it. Yes I can think of a lot of things the money on the "academy" could be better alloted for.
