Dallas New Grad

Published

Specializes in Psych.

Hey Dallas residents! I’m looking for some general information and advice. I’ll be graduating in May with my BSN. I’m currently finishing my degree in Pittsburgh. I’ve been working in psych since the Summer after my freshman year. Lately my partner and I have been thinking about moving to Dallas to be closer to my family in her 2 gap years before med school. I was hoping some Dallas nurses could give me a better feel for the hospitals and options, especially for a new grad.

I love psych and would definitely continue with it. I currently work in a very acute inpatient setting and can’t see myself doing anything less “intense”. I’m also volunteer firefighter getting my PHRN with an interest in the ED.

I’m very interested in Parkland, particularly because the population I’ve worked with for the past almost 3 years is very similar. I saw some postings for ED psych RNs, but most require experience.

Since we only really began considering moving in the past month, I’ve missed all my opportunities for new grad residencies. The three main hospitals Im looking at are Parkland, UTSW, and Baylor. I have interests in peds, ED, or psych but I am not a med surg nurse. I’m wondering if anyone had insight into these hospitals and what it’s like for new grads applying outside of residencies.

I’d love to hear from Dallas RNs!

Hi, I'm graduating in Dallas, but it is a bit competitive here. Residency usually do not want individuals with more than 1 year experience as a nurse and you may no qualify for them
