Dallas: Best hospitals for working postpartum or mother baby

U.S.A. Texas

Hi,

I'm a 29 year old female thinking about moving the the Dallas area within the next 6 months or so. I have family in Tyler and am wanting to move to a bigger city for more things to do when I'm off. I have 4 years experience, 1.5 yrs in intermediate/step-down and 2.5 yrs postpartum where I work currently. I'm hoping to find a postpartum or mother baby position. My current hospital has the newborn nursery and postpartum units as separate entities so I do not have any experience caring for newborns other than helping mothers breastfeeding, changing diapers, etc. I am looking for some insight into the better hospitals for this specialty. My current hospital is magnet designated. Also I would love any insight into current pay for someone with my experience. I live in SC right now and work in GA with a base pay around $25.

I was only able to visit Dallas for a day earlier this month when visiting family. I was able to walk through Parkland, Baylor and Texas Health Presbyterian. I don't know much about the area, so any suggestions about places that would be safe for a single female with no kids and a dog would be greatly appreciated! I would like to be near an area that has things to do, parks, outdoor activities, etc. I would be okay with a commute of ~20 mins as long as where I live has plenty to do in my spare time.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice provided!

Hi Oluchika! I know Medical City Dallas has their postpartum unit and nursery separate if that's what you're interested in. I believe both Baylor and Presby are Mommy / Baby. While I haven't worked at Medical City, I did have both of my kids there and had such a great experience! I feel like you can't go wrong with any of those 3 hospitals, but hopefully someone with more experience can chime in. I'll be working at Baylor soon, and have heard wonderful things!

If you're wanting to live close to an outdoor area, look at places near White Rock Lake. There are quite a few apartments and smaller homes, there are trails to walk / run, and even a recently renovated dog park. It's east, but still pretty central.
