this website is new to me but very nice to know it;s here. i have a ? that i have never experience in my life. a patient with bladder cancer had a complete cystectomy with ileal conduit. after the surgery, i noted the stoma to be cyanotic. has anyone ever seen that and what did you do? called my the doc but the family was peop & the pt was transfered so i never learned the outcome. just curious in the future what i could have done differently? thanks for any feedback. my personal email is [email protected] as well :)

i have never had a patient with a cyanotic stoma, but if i had i would have done the same thing you did which was called the md. a cyanotic stoma means that their is compromised blood flow to the area and if not caught in time, necrosis could set in. our job as nurses is to make sure to be checking for any color changes in the stoma, no matter what kind of stoma it is and call the md appropriately.
