I currently work in a mixed ICU of a suburb hospital, so we see a little of everything. Interviewing for two different ICUs, a CVICU and a Neuro/Trauma ICU at a Level II trauma center. I enjoy trauma and cardiac, I have no desire to go to CRNA school so I don't care which is better for that. Any insight into these types of units would be appreciated.
- How is the acuity in each? Which is typically higher?
- Is a neuro/trauma unit mainly neuro with trauma mixed in, the other way around, 50/50?
- Which sees a wider variety of things?
- I've heard CVICU becomes very routine because you see the same couple of conditions or surgeries, any truth to this?

Not an ICU nurse but when I was still on the floor CVICU interested me. I was told the same thing: CVICU is very cookie cutter. That's fine if that's what you want. If you want something that isn't the same everyday maybe the neuro/trauma would be more interesting. You'll definitely see different cases if it's a trauma ICU.
