Cut off marks for BscN

Published

I writing on behalf of my daughter. She was accepted at Brockville campus of St Lawrence College for the Nursing degree program. She really wishes to go to the Kingston campus. Unfortunately she is waitlisted there. Does any one know the cut off marks to enter these programs. The college will not give this information out. She may go back to high school to bump up her marks. She is currently a 79 average. The pre health Bsc course offered does not have any bearing to get you into the program next year so she has ruled that out. The college also told us that transfers are not as likely as people image.

The reason they won't give you the cut-off marks is probably because they change depending on the pool of applicants they're looking at. The minimum is 60% prerequisite average OR completion of Pre-Health Sciences program with a minimum 2.8 GPA. Let's say they have 50 seats and 200 applicants. They rank order the applicants by prerequisite average. For this example let's say Applicant #50 has a prerequisite average of 83%, Applicant #60 has an average of 81% and everyone else in between has 81.1-82.9%. Although all of them surpass the requirement by a long shot, there are still only 50 seats. You see what I'm saying? That's why they won't tell you cut-offs... because they can't.

Transfers are not that easy to get. The seats are so sought-after that it would take a minor miracle for one to be available for a transfer student. If she really wants Kingston, then she should bump up her marks and wait it out.

The discussion thread on this student site has a lot of high school students telling what their averages were to get into nursing school for Sept 2009:

Good luck!
