Current LPN, completing BSN want to enter army

Hello,

So I've always wanted to be in the military but I knew I wanted to go in as a officer.. I'm currently a LPN and have 5 years experience with the VA I'm also almost done with my BSN program.

1. Will the Army or Air Force take in my LPN experience so I may enter with a higher rank?

2. How is the military with tattoos and officers? I currently have a huge one on the back of my neck.

3. Can my family come with me while I complete my training?

4. When should I start my packet?

Any help will do.. Thank you guys!

1. I believe the Air Force gives you 2:1 years of nursing experience, but I don't know if that's only as an RN. So if you had 4 years of nursing they would give you 2 years of service, e.g. 1LT.

2. The AF just made a big change in allowing a lot of tattoos, but not on the neck. I suppose it depends if it's visible.

No, only RN time counts.

Nothing on the neck that goes above the t-shirt line for the Army; the AF is even more strict. I commissioned into the Army with sleeves in progress, and I had to obtain a waiver for those. Anything on face/hands/neck is a no-go. Sorry.

That would depend on your first duty station. For the Army Nurse Corps, the majority of training is at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. If that is your first duty station, then your family will move with you when you begin training. If you are stationed anywhere else, then no. They told us to NOT bring three things to initial training: family, pets, and weapons.

4. When should I start my packet?

How soon can you get your tattoo removed?

You should contact a recruiter to find out the needs of the service at this time; the Army hasn't been taking many new grads for a while unless you did ROTC. The AF still takes new grads, but your tattoo is probably going to be an issue.
