Well Currently am not attending class this semester due to some issues.

Ok here is my story, I applied to Bmcc in May of 07. I only applied because I was going to try to complete this program called ASAP, Which allows you to go to Bmcc & take classes for free. Unfortunately I didn't get accepted to that program. & I choose Liberal Arts for my major, since you could have only choosen 4 different majors. So I am stuck with Liberal Arts. I took the ACT, while I was still in high school, not knowing what I was getting myself into unprepared. And failed the test. All 3 Math Reading & Writing. Then I was sentence to summer school in my high school for 3 classes. I passed and graduated in September and I couldn't attend classes in Bmcc by the time I got it. Then in Spring 08 I took one semester for my remedial courses. I passed my Math & Writing.

O did I mention I obtain no credits what so ever.

So ok, Lately I been beating myself up, about a career I might want to pursue, & Nursing interests me the most. Of course am planning to commit to it. So am planning to Change my Curriculum from liberal arts, to nursing. In the Bmcc website, Clearly states I have to complete my all remedial courses. Which possibly I have to take a couple more I don't know why.

info on bmcc nursing, can get it herehttp://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/health/nursing/NUR.html#1

Change of Curriculum policyhttp://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/health/nursing/NUR.html#10

Now I have big worries because. I don't know how long I need take certain courses and actually be ready to move to Nursing. On top I hear stories about how tough it is to get into actual nursing Classes.

My biggest worry is my Father actually paying the tuition, Even though we are paying it monthly. He tells me he is willing to keep paying, that he doesn't mind. Having the guilt that he is paying for it sucks.

I really need advice. :saint::(

It's sounds like you're in fairly good shape - you have support, you have a plan, I think what you need at this point is patience - you're young and you have time to do what you have to do. So what if you have to take a few more remedial courses? It will only help you in the long run. After all, you want to be in the best possible position to actually pass the courses you take in nursing school, right?

Just relax, get a clear picture in your mind of exactly what you have to do at this point in time and do it well. If it's remedial courses right now, then do them, with focus and determination, and then move on to the next stage. The thing about nursing school is getting in is probably harder then the actual nursing school - community colleges are great but you have to have almost perfect grades in the key courses (the courses they use to determine if you're getting into the program) in order to get in. So take whatever remedial courses you need, then take the key courses (and get A's!!!), then apply to the nursing program, and you'll get in!!! It's that simple. It doesn't matter if you have to take another semester or two of remedial courses, you're young and you'll still be one of the youngest students in nursing school even if you don't get in for another two years!

Specializes in i havent taken the cna stateboard exam..

whats up everyone

My situation is similar GMAN19. Except i transferred from laguardia nursing program b/c i got a w in chemistry. Which took my 4.0 gpa all the way down to 1.7. I appealed for a change but i was unsuccessful. So i apply to bmcc hoping to get a fresh start this spring. unfortunately the admission office told me that my gpa is too low to enter the nursing program. In order for me to get in i would have to take liberal arts classes to raise up my gpa ( i believe it has to be higher than a 2.7 to enter the program i cant remember exactly). If anyone been through the same situation let me know the outcome.

My suggestion...find something else. If you're having this much trouble with basic remedial classes then I don't think you'll be able to complete the pre-reqs let alone the actual nursing classes. And as for the GPA to get into the program, last semester which was my first in the program the cum GPA for the entering class was 3.8

I had a 4.0 so naturally had no issues such as yours. Sorry but I find that in this forum everyone kisses ass instead of telling it like it is... Face the truth, if you can't even do the ACT what makes you think you deserve to be doing this program? I'd be pretty nervous as a patient with you as my nurse knowing your academic background. There's a lot of math involving meds and to be so shaky with those skills is scary!

I don't think you should give up on being a nurse just because you made some mistakes when you were in H.S for crying out loud. I'm in my 30s and I cringe at some of the poor choices I made when I was a teen. Since you know what you want to do now you simply have to focus and get the kind of grades that will get you into a nursing program. Maybe sticking around a CUNY school is not your best bet since they do tend to be pretty unforgiving when it comes to G.P.A.

Nursing can be pretty challenging, and I believe if you settle down and are willing to put in some hard work, you can do it. I assume your previous failures were the result of poor planning and lack of preparation. Both of these can be corrected , so do not give up. Just know that nursing is not easy by any stretch of the immagination.

Good luck.

Wow, Im surprised you didnt give up so far. Keep at it, dont let it win against you. Try to change an aim for A's.
