Hi, All. I am currently an ADN student scheduled to graduate in December. I'm interested in pursuing hospice nursing, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to get a job with just an ADN program degree. Most of the job openings I've viewed are looking for at least a BSN. I have done hospice volunteering in the past and loved it. I'm in California. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

I'm not sure about California, but in Louisiana you need 2 years med/surg experience to work in hospice. They make an exception for RN's who have 2 years experience in hospice.
Yes, I figured I would need at least a year of acute care experience, but I'm wondering if an ADN degree qualifies me for hospice nursing, or if I need a more advanced degree.
At our company, we only have one RN who has a BSN. The other RN's have AD. I'm an LPN and have been working in hospice for the past 10 years.

Most agencies in Michigan employ a healthy mix of LPN, ADN, BSN, etc nurses. We have areas which are adjacent to universities and they tend to have a higher concentration of well educated nurses. I would imagine that these things are true for your area as well, at least to some degree.
As others have pointed out, the sticker for you is experience.
