Current Accelerated Nursing Belmont Student or incoming Class of Spring 10

Published

Hello, I was accepted at Belmont University accelerated nursing program for Spring of 2010. I wanted to know the experiences from current or past students from the program. I also read that you must maintain a B average in each course to progress to the next semester. What is the grading scale? How are the professors? What was the schedule like with lecture and clinical? I am so excited and nervous at the same time. Thanks!

I do not have the info that you need, but I would post this again in the tennessee forum. You might get more hits that way.

i'm a student on belmont's fast track. it is by far the best school for bsn in middle tn with a 100% nclex pass rate and wonderful staff. they keep high standards because they want you to be fully prepared when you become a nurse. i'm not going to lie... it is a hard program. nursing is hard as it is but i feel that belmont makes it harder. the grading scale differs with each instructor but basically, 93 and above is an A, 85 to 92 is a B, and 76 to 84 is a C i think. you have to have a 76 test average in order to pass the class, regardless of other scores on papers, projects, etc. the professors are all very kind, christian, and SMART. the tests are hard and you really have to know your stuff in order to pass. you can't guess and get away with it. schedule with lecture and clinical varies by semester. intro to nursing clinical and adult health 1 clinical require you to go "pick up the patient" assignment the day before. you have to do a lot of paperwork for the next day and that can take up to 12 hours..

don't be scared. it sounds intimidating but if you go in with the right attitude, you will be fine.

Thank you for your reply. I heard great things about Belmont. I am just little a nervous about the Accelerated program because it requires a B average in each course to progress to next semester. You are right just with the right attitude and faith I gonna make it through it. How much longer do you have?

I finish in december 2010. the next two semesters for me are going to be like the traditional program. the only semester that was fast tracked was this one. it was terrible. so glad it's almost over!

I applied to Belmont's program and am wondering how long did you wait for an acceptance letter after you applied? I know their on rolling admission so i'm just curious!

To anyone still checking this - what kind of GPA did you guys who got accepted? My previous undergrad was 3.19 and I just got 2 A's on prereqs which brought it up to around a 3.22 which is what Belmont will see. Do you guys thinks this will work based on you or your classmate's GPAs?

So if you make a C in one class you can't progress into the next semester or you just have to retake that one specific class??? Did this happen to anyone? Do you have to retake the whole semester?

You have to make above a 76 in each class, with your overall semester gpa above 3.0 - and the gpa scale depends on the class. For instance, you can make a 90 in a class and that's considered a B+ which is a 3.3. I believe if you get below a 3.0 in semester, it is a case by case type scenario about moving on. If you do get below a 76 in a class (or have below a 76 test average for that class) it is considered failing, so you have to retake the class. Not sure if you have to retake the whole semester or what, but it would throw off your timing with the program for sure.

I have heard rumors of people not moving on with their group because of classes/personal issues, but I don't know their personal situations. I would say just don't get in the case to where you have to find out what happens.
