Curious about birth control

and pregnacy. No I am not pregnant, not on birth control pills and not looking for medical advice. I'm just curious does anyone know what effect birth control would have on pregnancy? I hear about people getting pregnant on the pill and have never really thought too much about it until a couple of days ago. I looked on the net and couldn't find much info but it seems to me it it wouldn't really do much right, because they are mostly estrogen and progesterone, both of which are needed to sustain a pregnancy.

So am I competely off base in my rationale? Anyway I'm off to check the net to see what I can come up with.

Eden, I addressed your concern about the medical advice issue, as you can see. Now, perhaps we can move past that and on to a discussion about the issue of birth control and its effect on pregnancy. This is a worthy discussion, to be sure. I would welcome and love to hear from others who have information about this.

Thanks.

I think that for women who are on the pill, it may be difficult to tell when they are pregnant. For example, for some women, including myself, the side effects of birth control are quite significant. I had "morning sickness" all day long... and some women get a *significantly* lighter period while on birth control. I could see symptom-wise where it could be difficult to tell you are pregnant, especially right away...

It could also depend on the birth control, i think. They vary in doses of estrogen and/or progesterone. And I'm curious to know if your body compensates for the extra hormones you are giving it...in that case, i would worry about abruptly stopping the bc when you find out you're pregnant if you're significantly along... So many women react so differently to different forms of birth control that there are many factors to look through when doing research.

It's an interesting topic, and I'm curious what current research shows.

Isn't that what Eden has been "trying" to do! :)

Yes, that is why I put the "anyway beyond that" part in my last post.
