I would like everyones opinion on this.

Do you think they will ever find a cure for cancer or other serious diseases. I think they will and are always working on it, but one of my patients brought up a really good point that they make so much money off the drugs and treatments that maybe they really aren't working as hard as we know it.

any ideas?

Many cancers are cured every year. My 13 year old son has been cancer-free since he was 9 months old. My father has been cured of colon cancer and is 5 years free of prostate cancer as well. I know that St. Jude does a huge amount of research into the treatment and cure of cancer, and there are many studies going on for new cancer treatments.

However, I think the disease getting the most attention currently is HIV. I don't know that we will ever cure some of the viral illnesses like HIV, HEP C, etc. but I do think that we will enable people to live longer better lives with these diseases. There isn't going to be a cure for everything--new diseases pop up, some people have problems that interfere with treatment, some people are too far gone before seeking treatment, some people just don't respond to treatment.

It is a law of nature that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That applies in physics and medicine as well. So, I think there will be cures found, just maybe not anytime soon.

I think that we could find many cures in the rain forests and other formerly uninhabited lands that people across the world are ruthlessly deforesting. ( yeah, yeah, so I'm a tree hugger ;) )

There have already been many valuable plants that have been found and are used from these areas.

I think more research is done and more answers are available than what the researchers and pharmaceutical companies want the public to know. Think about it. If you can purchase a plant from the rain forest, or even cultivate one yourself, this is MUCH cheaper than paying the pharmaceutical company. I don't know, I just have a HUGE mistrust of pharmaceutical companies. Sorry!

I believe that that there are things that we are not meant to cure. That life will out and that death will out. That no matter what occurs, there will always be life that continues that all life eventually must end at some point, for some reason.

As far as the "conspiracy theories" on bars to cures, give me a break. Even if we find a cure-all, somebody will abuse it and we will develop disease forms that have resistance to it. That is what has happened so far (life of germs will out proven). And that has happened due to our stupidity. The other thing is that if you develop a cure/vaccine/treatment for something, people will abuse their bodies worse, knowing that the "cure all" is there. When if they cared for their bodies from the start, they would not need the cure all.

We all desire the "magic bullet", when what we need to do is live in a way, that we will not need it.
