what do you say to this.. i had this in clinical today with a man that is diabetic and this was his excuse to having crazy and out of control diabetes. i need to know how i can handle this in a culturally-acceptable way. anyone have any suggestions?

My biggest concerns are atheist... I don't want to offend anyone ...and I'm praying ill be able to provide care without offending them with my belief. Good luck

I'd think we're the easy ones. Just keep it to nursing and science and don't preach. (NOT calling you preachy, as I don't know you personally)

You didn't actually mention anything indicative of a cultural issue, just religious, so I don't really know how to help.

I agree with others that this is actually more or a case for therapeutic communication to get the patient to talk more about his thoughts on the issue. It's hard to tell from one sentence if he truly believes poorly controlled diabetes is god's will or if he's just using a defense mechanism.
