CU Denver 2020 Traditional Program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello!

I hadn't seen a post from anyone about applying to the June 2020 start so I figured I'd make one! I submitted my application back in September and just received notification that it was verified and eligible for review. They stated that they plan to get back to everyone no later than Monday, December 16th.

I just wanted to link up with some other people in the same boat! I have a Bachelor's degree from CU Denver in Communication, and am now going back to get a BSN. I spent the last couple years getting my science prerequisites, and got a 4.0 in all of those! I kind of screwed up my first couple years of college way back when, so my cumulative is only like a 3.2 including my previous Bachelor's (graduated with a 3.0), but my last 9 or 10 semesters (including summers and prereqs) come out to almost a 4.0 (one A- in there). I have my CNA certification and worked as a CNA for about 6 months as well.

I'm so anxious to hear back!! I almost didn't apply because I thought CU was too competitive, but I just went for it. My backup plan is MSU Denver accelerated. I think I have a decent chance of getting called for an interview, but after that it's anyone's game!

I'd love to hear from others who are applying, or who have applied in the past/gone to CU Denver!

Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone!
I am a current student in this program. If you have any questions feel free to leave them below! I'm sure you all did great on your interviews (my phone went off during mine which made me convinced that was it for me). I can say that if you are put onto the waitlist and still wish to go to CU then I highly recommend you put your name on it. I don't want to guess but a good amount of students were later admitted from it.

if there are people that are waitlisted, we have to acknowledge and put our names on it?

Yes. They send out a mass email saying you are accepted, waitlisted, or denied. If you are waitlisted you are given a link to accept a position on the list or decline it and get something like a week or two to respond.

Thanks! that helps a ton. Are the mass emails a new process instead of individual emails?

No problem! I came to this website to look up thinks like GPA and interview points and wished someone who had gone through it had some advice. Unfortunately, I was a tad late on giving insider info on the interviews.

I never received a non-mass email, so if you aren't then that is new. I received emails that were addressed to me but obviously was just a message that each name was inserted into the heading and wasn't personal.

If you meant an email that included all the other people who were waitlisted than I was a bit mistaken and exaggerating "mass email". I meant that they sent the emails out "in mass" if that makes sense. Sorry about that!

Thanks so much for popping into this thread! I have a question about scheduling. If we do get accepted, when can we expect to know our course schedule for Summer? I am a CU Denver Alum and if I remember correctly, summer registration usually started in early March. Is it similar with Nursing school? What is the process like as far as scheduling courses?

I'm SUCH a planner so I'm getting crazy anxious not knowing what my life is going to look like, one way or the other!

Sorry, it took so long to get back to you!

They will send you your "schedule" pretty soon to being accepted. It will just be a layout for all the classes you will take over the next 2 years in the order you will take them. I can't remember exact dates but I believe about a week or two after being accepted I was able to see my summer courses and what time they were.

The first and second semester is course intensive. For the first semester, you will have class (Pathophysiology, Health Assessment, and Nurse Roles) 3-4 days a week. It would usually be 2 days of class (8hr days) and 1-2 days of clinical. You will have 1 clinical in a hospital as a CNA during the semester, which will be told to you pretty far in advance.

Unfortunately, they don't tend to release onsite clinical very early. They tend to come out a week before class, but I believe the first semester they were much quicker about it.

Good luck!!! After the first two semesters, it gets much easier (and so much more interesting) and a lot more time is spent in the hospital.

Thank you SO much! That was extremely helpful information and made me super excited/anxious to hear back! Hoping we hear by Friday and don't have to wait until Saturday.
