CTCC clinical uniforms & shoes... help!

I am not at Norwalk, but at TRCC, the uniforms are assigned were the only ones acceptable. Those that purchased others were told to purchase the correct ones or they would be given a CLIP (enough of these equal a warning and can eventually equal a big problem). The shoes had to be all white and all leather. Small white logos were acceptable. We were allowed athletic shoes, as many people have white Sketchers that are all leather. Tattoos must be covered and only white shirts are acceptable under uniforms. You must wear long hair tied back in a ponytail, and your hair can be colored, but it has to be a natural color. Basically, we represent our schools and the CTCC program while in clinical settings. I think it's completely reasonable that they set rules for what they find acceptable. Even if you hate your uniform, it's four semesters of your life, you can graduate and never wear anything like it again. Good luck.

kangaroo621...i emailed you today. i was hoping we cud get together b 4 orientation and go over some of the requirements, maybe we cud head to norwalk to purchase books, uniforms, etc., if you want. let me know.

i am starting at norwalk in the fall & got an email explaining what we'll need for uniforms/shoes for clinical (see below for contents of email). so now i have a few questions... may be silly, so bear with me!
-i know they want us to all look the same at clinical, so i understand why they'd want us to wear the same brand scrubs in the same color... but why oh why do they care what style #'s we pick? some look virtually identical, but one is "approved" & the other is not on the list... why?
-does everyone actually stick to these exact styles/brands, or are things actually a little more laid-back than they make it sound?
-similar question about the shoes... are very small (white) logos okay, or again, are these guidelines to be followed exactly, no ifs/ands/buts?
-someone mentioned that we need to wear long-sleeved shirts if we have tattoos that would show otherwise... any specific requirements there?

the uniform that you are required to wear during clinical experiences consists of a white scrub top, royal blue pants and a white lab jacket. the style numbers listed below are available at the uniform factory, many uniform stores and in selected catalogs. do not substitute other style numbers for those listed below.
women
-white scrub top
brand: landau style: 8219

cherokee: style: 759 (unisex)
-royal blue pants
brand: landau style: 8327, 8512 or 8501
-white lab jacket style: 7551
men
-white scrub top
brand: cherokee style 759 (unisex)

footwear: shoes are white leather, (usually oxford style.) may be nursing shoes or plain white athletic shoes. not permitted: clogs, moccasins, sandals, canvas tennis shoes, or athletic shoes with visible writing or symbols

Hi there! Congrats on your acceptance. I recently graduated from NCC. As far as the uniforms go, it really depends on whose clinical groups you end up assigned to. Some instructors are more laid back about the uniform than others. I personally wore the required scrubs in the beginning, then as I needed replacements just bought similar styles in the right colors and didn't have a problem. But a few instructors are real sticklers, so tread carefully. I can think of one instructor who prohibits long sleeve shirts under your scrub top, so that might make covering a tat tricky.

Shoes/sneakers with small white logos are fine. They do not budge on the "no clogs" rule however, so don't even try :)

So overall, the letter makes it sound much more regimented and strict than it actually is. Also, you don't need your scrubs right away since you will be attending lab for the first few weeks before you actually go to clinicals at your assigned facility. If you are thinking about buying something that isn't on the list, I would wait on purchasing until you find out who you'll have for a clinical instructor. Then you can get the scoop from students in the semester ahead of you or you can find me on here and send me a msg and I'll be glad to share any advice I have.

I am a nursing student at one of the community colleges.This is my thought, it is 4, 16 week semesters!!!!!!!!!! Wear what they want, do as they say, listen to what they want to share with you!!!!

Then you are out!!!!!!!!!

Ya never know, when you get out in the real world the boss might tell you what to wear and how high to keep your hair...... If you want it bad enough you will do it!!!!!!
