CSULB Spring 2020

Hello everyone!

I couldn't find a thread for the upcoming spring admission, so I thought I should start one. Who is applying to CSULB this upcoming semester for spring 2020? I've finished all my pre-requisites. I just need to take TEAS which I am taking in early June. I would love to hear from other applicants and current CSULB nursing students.

Hi! I’m a second semester nursing student in the semester program. The workload is supposed to be just as large in the summers as it is in the fall (which can about 15 units). Due to Covid, some students are not able to get the clinical opportunity they need for their classes to count, so this is not a predictable course load or experience. We are almost exclusively doing our classes online and Spring 2021 will be the same. The factor that is constant—if you were going to be needing any financial aid to pay for school, summers are not covered at all— only fall and Spring get aid. If you have no financial reason to need pelgrants or cal grants, and feel capable of doing large workloads in the Summer—go for trimester. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I live in San Diego, is it even worth moving up to Long Beach since the Spring semester will be online? Do you have the same clinical days/placements each week or does it change throughout the semester?

I have a classmate that lives in SD too. He drives down when we have in person clinicals, which hasn’t been frequent. You just need somewhere to stay for the 2 days (pre planning and clinical). We have had our clinicals change on a regular basis, and everyone just has to be flexible. You may have more predictability or get shuffled around with days, hours, and even instructors.

Question for current CSULB nursing students: What is the time frame (month wise) that you’re in school for both trimester and semester? For example, semester: Aug. - Dec. & Jan - May? I’m really curious about trimester

Yes, semester follows the months you listed! For trimester, there's about a one week break between terms, so basically just Aug-Dec, Winter break, Jan-May, May-Aug.

Hello everyone! 

I am currently a CSULB pre-nursing student on academic leave and I applied for Spring 2021. My overall criteria score is 9.418. I am currently on the alternate list and I have a few questions that hopefully some of you might be able to answer and give me some peace ahhahaha. 

Overall TEAS: 92

Reading: 85.1

Science GPA: 4.0 

GE GPA: 3.75

 

I was wondering for anyone out there that was also a pre-nursing student and/or was on the alternate list, how many people were on the alternate list and how many people did they end up taking from the list as well? when did you guys find out that you were removed from the list and accepted? in any one's opinion what are your thoughts of me getting off the list?

I was a little shocked to be getting a rejection so soon because I was under the impression that the alternates list would stay open for longer (on the website I think it says alternates could be admitted up to the first week of the semester). I guess most people accepted their offers this time around so there’s no reason to keep us on the waitlist?

Question for current students: Is there a custom clinical bag with the school name or logo we have to order or are we free to get whatever we want?

HI! You cannot bring any items to clinical except for what can fit into your pockets. When you are at the SIM lab you can bring your backpack, or anything you would like.
