@blenderboy93 I did fax my intent in and I am also waiting to hear back from other schools. The letter of intent was due April 1 I think. Did you send it ?

I do have a few questions actually; I just wanted to know how the work load is after already completing the first semester. Did you feel like it was super hard or way to much work? I'm really excited but nervous at the same time !!

We did feel as though it was way too much work/studying/reading but honestly, you get used to it. I think that's just part of nursing school, the first semester is all about becoming acclimated to the workload and the type of critical thinking that is central to nursing. In fact, 2nd semester is more difficult than the first but it's such a good feeling when you realize that you are up to the challenge and at least by that point it's not foreign to feel overwhelmed. Please don't let this scare you. It is simply the truth. That's what everybody who's in nursing school is going to tell you. You just need to try it and give it your best and you'll do fine. The faculty at CSUStan are awesome and they go out of their way to help.

I did send mine in! I emailed my intent in. I didn't have access to a fax machine. haha. Did you receive any confirmation that they received your intent? Did you receive any nursing packet with more information about the nursing program and its to-do-list in the mail yet? I have no received any information.

How was the medical terminology exam at the beginning of the nursing program? Any advice? Moreover, how did you situate yourself to the workload? How long did you study? Is your nursing classes small where you guys study all together?

I did call the nursing office and they let me know that they did receive my intent. And I have not received anything additional. My guess is that after may 1st they will send stuff because that is when the deposits are due as well as the enrollment into the university.

Another quick question is that if I do choose to go I was wondering where most people live. I know some commute but I know some also live on or off campus.

The majority of the class live with family and are from the central valley. Places like Manteca, Modesto, Patterson and Turlock. But like me ( I live in Oakland, 90 miles away) there are a few that commute and the rest live in the dorms during the semester. I've looked into rent on a room in town vs. a dorm but what has worked for me is a combination of a few nights a week at a local hotel and a few nights with classmates.

The med term exam is actually not bad at all. Honestly, it's just the really basic stuff that any health care worker needs to know. The text they recommend getting is helpful, but not absolutely necessary, IMO. There is actually an extensive quizlet set based on the chapters in that book. I'd recommend doing a Google search for quizlet and the medical terminology book title and author. It should come up.

As far as time management and work ethic, I think each of us goes about it differently but we work together. Each cohort is only 30 so we all get to know each other well and there are many group projects which helps facilitate this. You'll find people in your cohort that you feel comfortable with and forming study groups can only benefit you. We all help each other, share info, study tips and resources through our class Facebook group. And the only other thing I can say is to remain open to trying different techniques of studying and time management. Nursing school is unlike anything else and what worked for your pre reqs may not work here as it's not about pure memorization. Just try things that you see/hear others doing, ask for help, teach each other, go out of your way to form study groups. Basically, immerse yourself in the process and try your best and you'll be fine.

I'm sure that is fine, i applied to san francisco state, sac state, and channel islands. but the only one I've heard back from was stan state. I've done some research and it looks like to what i've found that Stan has a really good program, and i like that fact that you are in a cohort of 30. we will just have to wait and see!

We have a really high NCLEX pass rate and get so much support from the faculty. All cohorts are tight knit and active in the SNA/community. Our clinical experiences have been great. I can't say enough positive things about my school.

I am so glad to hear that! I really have been doing my research for all of these schools and I have heard many good things about csustan's nursing program. Although I haven't been up to the school in hoping to come up this coming weekend.
