CSU San Marcos ABSN Spring 2014

U.S.A. California

Welcome everyone!

This topic is open for those waiting, new applicants, curious individuals, etc. :)

I thought I was going to enter for the fall 2013 cohort (Temecula) but looks like it filled up before they ever evaluated my final set of transcripts. However, its good to know we all get at least 1-3 chances to find out. I figured we can all join in on how we are looking forward to being accepted for the spring 2014 cohort (San Marcos).

Hi everyone!

I previously posted this topic on my old username but I let go of the account because I was spending a little too much time on the site. Haha. I just got accepted four days ago! :) I was dreading the wait because I hadn't been admitted for the fall because my transcript with my OChem class took almost 4 weeks to be received at CSUSM. Blah! I'm definitely looking forward to meeting you all in the spring. Has anyone made a facebook page for the cohort 18? Just curious.

@hopeful717-"conditional acceptance" on my e-mail said: Your acceptance is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check including, statewide, county, and federal screening.

But I have read elsewhere that they can accept you as long as you have all the nursing pre-requisites done such as Anatomy, Physio, Ochem, English, etc. The other classes like Stats can be taken another time? Don't want to give you the wrong information but that's what I've heard.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to everyone.

Congrats!! That must be such a great feeling!

And thank you for the advice. That is what I read as well, but my in progress class in physio so I guess I have to wait it out. I have sent in my application and transcripts so that they can evaluate the classes I have already completed.

Do you know how many points you had? If you dont mind sharing.. :)

Hey again @hopeful717 :)

They never showed my points on my evaluation packet when I received them so I don't know what I actually got. I know that my last 60 units really did help my chances more than my TEAS and my nursing pre-requisites (I had almost all B's with 1 A in Physiology). I was actually really worried that my scores were not very competitive with the program since most schools expect at least a 3.8. However, it looks like as long as you have a GPA above 3.0 in the pre-requisites, other core classes, and the 60 units, you should be fine. I have read on other posts with people that had close to 3.0 in all their classes and getting in with at least a 78%-85% teas score.

Hope this answers your question. :headphone:

Hello! I definitely think 37 will be enough for acceptance!! Someone posted on an earlier thread that everyone that had over 33 points was pretty much a shoe-in.... but who knows! :) I'm in the same boat as you, my class won't end till December.... do you really think that means we'll have to wait until Fall? I'm so anixious haha

@anatomyofhearts: That's awesome!!! You must be so excited! Which campus are you going to?

And by who knows I meant it towards the shoe-in part, not you getting in part :)

I hope not. I really hope that December won't be too late for spring admission. They do also have a summer term, so I guess it won't be too bad. I am just as anxious! Have you already submitted your application or are you waiting until you finish your class to begin?

San Marcos, which is definitely closer to me than Temecula since I live in SD. :)

Has anyone received their orientation packet for those admitted into the Sp2014 Cohort?

Hello! :) I am applying as soon as I take my TEAS! (Not until Oct 19th :/) I've been stalking old CSUSM threads and it looks like people are getting accepted up until school starts so I guess there's still hope for Spring 2014!

@laras: Congrats!! You must be so excited!!

@3shaaa: Here's an info video from the CSUSM advisors!

(Are we allowed to post youtube links?? Sorry, new!) The list of clinical sites in the video (mind you, made in May 2011) are: Scripps, Kaiser, Tri-City, The VA, Rady Children's Hopsital, Balboa, Inland Valley Hospital, and Camp Pendleton, and I'm assuming Pomerado Hospital as I've read the hospital helps fund the program. :)

Good luck to everyone!!

I'm beyond excited!!! Soooo excited that I'm making a road trip next weekend to "get to know the area" I'm from Sacramento, so road trip here I come!! LOL!!

Hope you did well on your TEAS!!! My biggest mistake on the teas was taking too long on the math portion! I ran out of time with 5 questions left... I had to guess versus leaving them blank :/

I'm from NorCal too! (Bay Area) I went to UCI for undergrad though, and you will LOVE SoCal!! :) Have fun on your road trip!! :)

And thank you!! That's good to know about watching out for the time. Ahh this whole process is making me so anxious and excited! Let us know how you like the area/campus!

Oh that works out perfect then!! I'm debating (IF I get in, and to the San Marcos campus) whether or not to live closer to SD or not, since most of the clinicals are in SD anyway. It depends on where my boyfriend gets a teaching job, but do you have any good spots to look at, just in case? Haha, I'm so excited/anxious that I'm literally researching EVERYTHING haha

I don't plan on moving to San Marcos since I love living in SD proper and not out in north county. I am okay with the drive since its about ~30 minutes without traffic. It definitely depends on what type of scene you are into. If you are big on bars and restaurants without hurting your budget, check out North Park, Normal Heights, and Hillcrest (slightly pricey). I love the fact that they are in the middle of SD and a good 8-10 minute from downtown. Its definitely easier to access the freeway from those neighborhoods to San Marcos. If you're interested in living by the beach which is a little bit out of the way, check out Mission Beach, Point Loma, and Ocean Beach. Pacific Beach is another cool place if you like clubbing, bar hopping, etc...not my scene because its a college kid haven. Haha. Downtown is expensive and I don't think most students can pay $1500 and up for an apartment but if you can afford it, kudos to you! :) If you want to live more of a mid-way point of downtown and San Marcos, Mira Mesa is another place to check out. Its more of the suburbs but it'll cut your commute to the campus by at least ten more minutes without traffic. Hope this answers your question!
