Fall 2014 CSUSM ABSN hopefuls- this is the forum to share, bounce ideas off, ask questions with your fellow applicants! I am finishing my last two prerequisites during this Spring 2014 semester but have my rolling application and Teas already submitted. Since many applicants have recently received their acceptance letters for the Summer 2014 cohort, I figured now would be a good time to open up the next forum for Fall. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
Hi all, happened to come across this when looking for something else. I am in ABSN 17, Fall start last year, and just felt the need to help the anxiety for those of you accepted and trying to figure out your lives! We all went through the same thing and wanted to rip our hair out...and just a heads up that each semester is stressful because you don't find out schedules till the last minute cause so much changes! haha. But for first semester, you will do background checks online but you will get the rest of your information about remaining checks, immunization records, physicals, and drug tests at orientation. You have to use specific forms for each of them. Orientation is usually mid-August (8 hour day on campus) and class begins late August. It follows the academic calendar so all holidays and breaks will follow CSUSM. First semester ABSN program is just your last upper division GE prereqs that must be taken at CSUSM. Anthro, Bio (Nutrition), and Philosophy (bioethics). Nursing classes/clinicals don't start until semester 2 (so you don't have to get scrubs, stethoscopes, etc until January). First semster lectures will be all one on day, so about 12 hours of lecture, and thats it. 1 day a week of class! Its pretty easy and low maintenance. So for those of you commuting or have part time jobs, it is definitely do-able first semester no problem. Second semester you move to 3 days/week. Hope that helps you all, and congrats and good luck! Keep an eye out for us on Temecula campus...ABSN 17, as we are exactly one year ahead of you so have lots of words of wisdom! Congrats! Enjoy your last month of freedom.

THIS IS VERY RELIEVING. I was scrambling to find out if we had classes a few times a week. Now that its only once a week for the first semester, I feel as though I do not need to make permanent changes just yet. Thank you for the insight! :) Do you take the GE's at the CSUSM campus or the Temecula campus?

No info on orientation yet. I assume they want to get all the background check and drug testing done before sending that info out.
