CSN RN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Nevada

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site and will be applying to CSN's RN program in March. I wanted to start a thread and see who will be applying with me and how things are coming along for everyone. :) I have all pre-reqs completed with a pre-req GPA of 3.58. I took the TEAS about a month ago and I passed, but wasn't thrilled with my score, particularly in science. I got an adjusted individual total score of 74.7%. Reading: 92.9%, Math 70%, Science 60.4%, and English & Language Usage: 76.7%. I barely passed the science portion and have signed up to take the TEAS one more time in February. With my current TEAS score, I have a total of 29 points for my application. I'm really hoping to get a better score and another point or two from the second TEAS!

Please let me know if you'll be applying in this cycle. I'd love to exchange advice and information and just connect with *hopefully* some future classmates! :)

There is a book, but the bookstore doesn't have it in stock. They were unable to give me an estimated arrival date.

Note: The instructors do not at any point teach you how to do the dosage calculations. You are just expected to figure it out. I'm not even kidding. Take the toolbox class! If you do you will be doing yourself a favor. 1st semester dosage calculations are easy but when you get to second, the terminology is confusing. It seemed like when it came to second semester, students who took the toolbox class were teaching/ tutoring everyone who didn't take it before the test. Toolbox covers the nursing math for each semester, as well care plan writing. You will have so much other stuff to do when the program gets started. Don't get stuck teaching yourself the math and how to write careplans in vain.

I just want to say congratulations to all of you that were selected. I just finished first semester, and it was tough but well worth it. Good luck to all of you! :)

Also, just curious - those of you who are alternates, how many points did you have?

I had 27 for part-time.

I have 27 points and am an alternate for part time.

Signed up for my classes but the pharm was full so I have to take it online :-( I have Tuesday lab 8-1050 & Tuesday lecture 12-250, anyone with me?

I have Tuesday lecture at noon, too.

Well good luck to you alternates, 27 points is a lot of points - it's getting higher and higher every semester!

If you don't make it this semester my suggestion is to study really hard and get a higher score on the teas, the teas can get you a lot of extra points. I used the free online resource Khan Academy for the math/science/chemistry portion, but there are also Biology videos - Mitosis/Meiosis, Photosynthesis and some really helpful A&P videos. The videos are usually under 20 minutes and are a great refresher.

He is always adding new educational videos too so keep checking back for new ones. Khan Academy (if my link doesn't show just google 'Khan Academy' and click through)

Have any alternates gotten a call yet? No call here, crossing my fingers tho!

Anyone planning on taking toolbox 1-2:30pm?
