CRRN Certification & WGU

Published

I am a newer nurse who works as a rehab nurse. I am interested in obtaining my CRRN certification.

The website states:

Applicants for the CRRN examination must have:

1. Current, unrestricted RN license

2. Completion of at least one of the following at the time of application:

• Within the five years preceding the examination, completion of two years of practice as a registered professional nurse in rehabilitation nursing; or

• Within the five years preceding the examination, completion of one year of practice as a registered professional nurse in rehabilitation nursing and one year of advanced study (beyond baccalaureate) in nursing.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the one year experience/one year advanced study. As a student of WGU, I am hoping to finish my MSN in 8 months. So, I won't have a typical "year" of advanced study, but I will have completed (hopefully) 29 cu's in that time. By the time I finish my MSN, I'll have the year of experience.

I know my situation is pretty unique, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone has more info. Thanks!

Following! What did you find out?

Hi, just came across your post and I'm curious how things worked out for you? I'm starting at WGU soon and was planning on 2 years to finish- were you able to do it in 8 months and how much time per week did you spend on schoolwork? I've been working in rehab for almost 2 years so hoping to apply for my CRRN in between semesters or when I'm done at WGU.

I sat for the June CRRN and passed it. I had just completed one year's experience in rehab, and had a year into my MSN at WGU. No problem, based on the scenario you outline in this post, you would meet the CRRN requirements with your year of experience and MSN completed.

Hello! how did you guys prepared for the CRRN Exam? How many hours is this exam and how many questions? Thank you in advance! :)
