I'm 19 and in college. So where I work I want to now become a CRNP and go into Mental Health Nursing. And specialize in Geriatrics. Then work in nursing homes, assisted livings, and independent livings. I just wanted to know if there was anyone else who had the same idea as me? - Also, share your plan for nursing school?I started at community college. 59 credits then i transfer right into my BSN. Any thoughts?!?!

I dont think NPs work at nursing homes or SNFs and definitely not independent living dude.

Specializes in Cardiac, Rehab.

Good ambitions, but I would slow down a bit and think longer term. You need to get through a nursing program first and then have a few years under your belt before you can get into a NP program. By then your goals may have changed. You have plenty of time at your age so don't be in such a rush.

NPs work at my old nursing home. 3 of them have patients there as a matter of fact and I've thought of going that route too. They also work at other facilities/hospitals.

Mental Health NP is a good choice. My psych professor happens to be a mental health NP and said she gets 2-3 job offers a week. I would go for the BSN rather than ADN if you had a choice. But get into whatever program you can!

While this is good advice, I think it's great that you have such an an in depth plan. I wish I had one at 19! Your already ahead of the game, and having a plan/goal will keep you there.
