World Canada CRNE

Published

Hi guys!

To all of you who took the CRNE last February 5, 2014, do you have any idea how many weeks should we wait for the results?

what could be the passing score? The exam was not an ordinary exam. I mean most of the cases are new (not the common dx of arf, crf, copd,mi etc). Also, the situations are not like for new Rn graduate.. I think you should have experience working in a hospital setting or special units because some of the questions are more of the routines in a hospital..not for nursing knowledge, anyways, good luck to all of us! In God, we trust!

I am a IEN. There are six books that I found good but I didn't study much from the last two books as I get to know about it later. I didn't take any course for preparation.I will recommend that while reading make notes of important details so you can review them in last days.

Mosby's comprehensive review for the Canadian RN exam

Marshall-Henty, Janice, 1948-

Sams, Cheryl. ; Bradshaw, Jonathon. 2009

(its good to review all the nursing theory in short and also have question in the end of each chapter)

Lippincott's CRNE prep guide

Schow, Elaine. ; Murray, Christina.

[COLOR=#333333]2009 (It has lots of questions for practice of Adult nursing, Pediatrics, Mental health, Maternal health and coummunity)

Mosby's prep guide for the Canadian RN exam : practice questions for exam success

Marshall-Henty, Janice, 1948-

2011 (it has three practice exam)

The Canadian registered nurse examination prep guide

Canadian Nurses' Association.

2010 (it has 100 questions and additional 50 questions in CD.this book is good to understand the format of the question and exams and also check the highlighted recommended books at the end of this book if you want to study anything in detail. Two of them I have given you below)

Canadian fundamentals of nursing

Potter, Patricia Ann.

Perry, Anne Griffin. ; Kerr, Janet C., 1940- ; Wood, Marilynn J.

2009 (for reviewing skills and procedures )

Brunner & Suddarth's textbook of Canadian medical-surgical nursing

Day, Rene A. ; Brunner, Lillian Sholtis.

2009 (if you want to read the diseases in detail)

thanks shinki...

I got my result today and i failed. It is sad day I guess i need to find a job first and prepare in the same time.

for all IENS can you tell me what resources did you use to study?what do you think about online CRNE prep courses or collages courses?

Hi guys! I am an IEN from the Philippines. I don't know what's the technique of passing the CRNE, but I think my experience and educ back in my country plus my re-entry program (1 year) here in Canada has helped me a lot with the introduction of the Canadian health care context. As an IEN, we are more of a generalist RN's back home (med-surgical, ob-gyne, icu, or, er etc etc), but their Canadian health care system is entirely different from our health care system. We also studied the community-nursing, mental health nursing, health assessment, nursing research, acute and chronic illness etc etc.. I also think that our clinical placement has greatly helped me learn the Canadian way of working in a hospital or community health nursing area.. I can still remember how hard it was to understand the Canadian health care system that it took me one whole day to read 2 chapters as I have to understand and analyze it between the lines.

Re. review materials, I found lippincott's 2007 crne reviewer, mosby's 1st and 2nd ed of CRNE reviewer and CNA's 10th edition very helpful.

I also think that some Canadian nursing books that we used in our school were very valuable (health assessment by jarvis, old's maternal text book, Lewis medical-surgical, community nursing book (canadian), and psychiatric mental health textbook (canadian) ----- just read Canadian nursing books.

I'm an IEN from the Philippines and I failed on my first attempt because I didn't study well enough.

On my second attempt I decided to enrol in a review centre and I chose Nurses Education Inc. as per recommendations of my friends.

They are really good and very particular with the Canadian Health System. They bombarded us with 1000+ exam questions and rationales. It was stressful but worth it. I really recommend it especially to IENs so that you'll be familiar with CRNE-type of exam.

BTW, their review book is really good and I'm keeping it for my future reference.
