CRNE February 2010

Published

Hello! anybody out there?!! :coollook:

I just received my confirmation to write the crne this February. I am now in desperation to get a review materials to study on. I am still in the process of acquiring the crne prep guide as this was what most of those taking the October 2009 CRNE but one thread says the shipping cost is far way too expensive. huhu

BUt however, the exam cost is to much to fail the test... so can anybody out there give tips? advises and how was it like? what to concentrate more?

I just got my results too and passed !! God is good :) :) :)

Hey guys ..congrats to everyone who passed . Unfortunately, I failed by 1 point, which is totally regretful and disappointing:( It's my first attempt, but even so I wasn't expecting it :( Any helpful tips or keywords that you guys can share with me for my next review, that would be much appreciated. . . Oh and is enrolling to a prep course helpful? Did any of you enrol and find it helpful. TIPS please.

Im also wondering, is it okay to ask questions in this forum RE: questions that were on the previous exam for the purpose of clarifying the answer and getting the opinions of others? or is that not allowed?

Thanks in advance.

Very sorry to hear you failed. I can only imagine what you are feeling now. Not sure if this will help but this is what I studied.......

The CRNE prep guide, including the short answer questions.

The Mosby's CRNE prep guide, including the short answer questions (Mosby's is more clinical which is good for bit of reversion).

The CNO compendium (just had a brief read)

Also went through a med/surg text book and covered common illness and conditions ie asthma, COPD, cardiac arrest, common ortho conditions and injuries. Little bit of peads and midwifery (I'm adult ICU nurse from Oz so I know nothing about kids or midwifery)

I have not nurses for 3 years due to living in South Africa and was working for Doctors without Borders, so I was feeling pretty stressed about this exam.

Also cover your Arterial blood gases, there were a few in the exam. Go over your drug calculations also, something I struggle with not having a calculator.

Finally read the questions carefully. Mostly the patient always comes first no matter what. You must not judge your patient and must respect their wishes and values. Use your common sense. I found must questions 2 answers were completely wrong so that left 2 questions that could be right. I then re-read what they were asking and then looked at the remaining 2 options.

Hang in there.

This exam does not define who you are as a person or as a nurse. I know a close friend back in South Africa who is a brilliant doctor failed her finals when specializing. She re-did her finals again 6 months later and got the medal for getting the highest marks in South Africa. Did she become a brilliant doctor in those 6 months, no she didn't. She was always brilliant, one exam doesn't make you a good or bad nurse or doctor.
