Are these good? Do I need all three? Which one will best prepare me for the exam? Thanks.

1) Mosby's Canadian comprehensive review of Nursing, 2nd ed

by Dolores Saxton

2) Mosby's Prep Guide for the Canadian RN exam

by Janice Marshall-Henty

3) Canadian RN Exam Prep guide, 4th ed

Any other book I should read?

Let me tell u my own experience.

I'm an IEN and i only had 1 month and a half to study before the exam. I didn't bought any nursing books , only the prep-guide and download CNA Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (2002) and the compendium of Standards. After that I took the online exam.

I went to Canadian Nurses Association web-site and took note of the 194 competencies. For each competency I took notes from different sources: web, books, personal experience... and I made 4 books, each one corresponding a group of competencies.

Professional practice

Nurse person relationship

Nurse-practice: health and wellness

Nurse practice: alterations in health

For me the most important thing is to look to the competencies. Each question on the CRNE is linked to one of these competencies. Don't forget that! Study each competency one by one. That's how I did and I passed my first attempt and English its not my mother tongue. Another thing : critical thinking!!!!! This is very important. It is important to think and analyse situations!

Thanks for the advice sm6531.

I've downloaded the code of ethics and the compendium of standards.

I also have the Prep book from CNA.

Hi sm6531 & everyone ,

Where can I download " compendium of Standards " ?

What is the difference between 2002 and 2008 edition ?

Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (2002)

http://www.cna-nurses.ca/CNA/documents/pdf/publications/CodeofEthics2002_e.pdf

Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (2008 Centennial Edition)

http://www.cna-aiic.ca/CNA/documents/pdf/publications/Code_of_Ethics_2008_e.pdf

Thanks.

hi!

you will find the compedium on cno website. About the other question, i think it is just an updated version. :)

Hey! I bought the Lippincott. Has anyone used this and how well did it help you in regard to passing CRNE? This may be the only book I purchase before I come out to Canada and of course I will take into account what you've posted on here! Thanks by the way!

@Holyhell

The lippincott book is a new release, 10/2008. The book was not yet out when i prepared for the October 8 crne. I doubt anyone who took the crne had a chance to get a copy.

I planned my study. First a general overview of everything. Then focused on areas where i am weak or not confident. I answered practice questions, and put a premium on understanding the rationale. When i did not understand a concept i read up on it. There were times when i would just ponder the concepts.

Toward the end, it helps to bring all things together, synthesize. And on the last day before d-day stop studying.

Many people here recommend "Canadian RN Exam Prep guide, 4th edition".

Specializes in Intensive Care and Coronary Care.

This month I purchased the Lippincott CRNE prep guide to study for the Feb 2009 CRNE. I quite like the book myself, it's layout and rationales. The only thing is that Lippincott guide only provides the rationales for the CORRECT answer, and not the reason why the other 3 were incorrect (like the CNA guide does which I find quite helpful).

Anyway after I sit and hopefully PASS the Feb 2009 exam, I will be able to post further praises about the book! (Even though I know that it's part determination, dedication and commitment that helps you pass the CRNE, not merely just a good book!) :yeah:

" Where can I download " compendium of Standards " ? "

Each registering body should have their own.
