CRNBC Eligibility to CARNA

World International

Published

Hi All,

I was assessed by CRNBC and was given an eligibility for CRNE and temporary registration. Would there be a possibility if I can get the same eligibility with CARNA without going through their assessment process for international applicants? I send them an email almost a month ago but until now, no reply yet.

Thanks a lot.

I'm pretty sure you can't. CARNA hasn't come out with any kind of statement on how they're going to interpret the provisions of the new interprovincial agreement between Alberta and BC (Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement or TILMA). Let me do a litte snooping. My gut though is telling me that there will not be any softening of CARNA's requirements. Oh, and the reason that you haven't heard anything from them is that they're still dealing with the backlog that developed over Christmas and the huge volume of applications they've gotten in the last four months or so.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,i am thinking along this line too.My documents are with CRNBC and am awaiting their response but am also considering registering with another province if i wont have to go through the lengthy registration process.I was informed that one can transfer registration to other provinces. How true is this?I would suggest you give CARNA a call and hear what they have to say about registering with them based on your CRNBC eligibility.

What I've learned about TILMA is that there may be reciprocity of registration between BC and Alberta, but not before April 2009, and maybe not at all. I couldn't find anything aspecific to nursing licenses. Their focus is more on the trades: pipefitter, heavy duty mechanic, carpenter, plumber, gasfitter and so on.

Of course once you have a license in one province it's possible to obtain one in another province, but the process isn't a whole lot shorter. There's still an assessment of your education, verification of your current license status, citizenship and work permits and so on, and it still involves the handing over of not-inconsiderable sums of money and waiting time. I wouldn't recommend trying to circumvent the system by obtaining a license in any of our provinces strictly based on how long it will take, then trading it in for another province. If the Colleges see that pattern developing they'll find a way to shut it down.
