CRNA @Thomas Jefferson POST-BSN-DNP 2016

Nursing Students SRNA

Hello

Is there anyone applying, have interviewed or has been accepted for Thomas Jefferson University DNP CRNA program in Philadelphia? They are the first school in Philly to have a DNP program. I am considering applying. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks.

Congrats on your acceptance! I heard a lot of programs ask about finances. How would you answer a question if they ask you how do you plan to financially support yourself? Is it appropriate to tell them how much you saved up? What's a good response?

They did ask but they didn't pry. If you have money saved its a definite plus.

@SirNurse did you interview yet?

Officially offered admission to Jefferson for this Fall 2016! :D looking for my other classmates beginning this year, too. I'm from the Philadelphia area, so if there are any out-of-staters, I would be glad to answer any questions about moving here!

Hey I can't private message yet since I don't have enough posts. I'm making this FB group but need at least 1 other person to create it. My full name is Andrew Kapterian. You can search me on FB and then I can create the group.

@SirNurse did you interview yet?

still waiting on another recommendation to be finished

Any news from anyone?

The interview was really straightforward, like akapterian said. It was more conversational and they made me feel comfortable through the entirety of it. Check out other posts on this site regarding "the interview" and you'll be in a good place. :yes: I found out in about two weeks, but unofficially at the end of the interview.

I have a 3.8 GPA, a little over 2 years experience by start date in a high-acuity CT SICU, GRE 311 (this program waived it), CCRN, also took a Graduate level course (not at Jeff though...). I'm also involved on my unit's committees and with mentorship.

Best of luck to you! :laugh:

Any clinical questions?

How is it going at TJ? I've heard some positive things about that school. I'm waiting to hear from Rutgers about an interview, and in the meantime considering other programs. I had my heart set on Rutgers, but as the interview date approaches I'm wondering if I got lost in the shuffle despite undergrad G.P.A. of 3.9! Feels very frustrating. I liked Philly a lot when I lived there part time with my ex. What hospitals do you do clinical at?

Hi everyone,

Since these posts immensely helped me prepare for my interview with Jeff this past week, I figured I would write about my interview experience and credentials in an attempt to help others, too!

I have an undergrad GPA of 3.83. Got my CCRN, ACLS/BLS/PALS/NIHSS certifications, and RN licenses in both Philadelphia and New Jersey. I have been the recipient of one DAISY award and have been nominated 2 additional times. Jeff requires 2 letters of recommendation, but I sent in letters from six recommenders, which is the maximum allowed. I am an active member of my unit council and a system wide critical care committee. I have worked in a mixed Medical/Neurosurgical ICU for the past 3 years - started there as a new to practice nurse. On my resume, I wrote out the type of pt's I care for on a daily basis, "pt's requiring vasoactive gtts, sedatives, paralytics, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, targeted temperature management, ICP/EVD monitoring... etc." I also shadowed a CRNA for 8hrs and poured my heart and soul into my personal statement - took about 5 pages of writing to express my passion for nursing and desire to become a CRNA.

I was called very soon after I sent in my application - within the same week. I interviewed with two faculty members and it was very relaxed. They didn't ask me one clinical question - but I had studied the entire weekend before in preparation. They asked me why I wanted to become a CRNA and why I thought I would make a good CRNA. They asked me what my undergrad GPA was and what types of gtt's I see in my ICU. Also, what type of pt's I take care of in my ICU. Also asked if I ever shadowed a CRNA. It was very straight forward and they unofficially offered me a spot in the program at the end of the 10-15 min long interview.

Best advice: APPLY EARLY. Only 26 seats in the DNP program and about 100+ people apply each year. Admissions is on a rolling basis. Class of 2017 starts in September.

Let me know if you have any additional questions. I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

Hi Andrew! I just submitted my TJU application. Was very impressed with the school.

Hi future CRNA! Just want to give you a heartfelt thanks for your post. I just submitted my application to TJU yesterday. My undergrad G.P.A. is 3.9, and I had a 3.74 in an acute care APN program til I had the obvious change of heart. I've been a nurse 16 years, 12 in ICU. Mostly CCU and 9 in MICU, some float pool. I have my CCRN, and have been super active in educating staff and a committee for 7 years. I'm hopeful I'll get an interview, but it seems like your advice about applying early is just about EVERYTHING, since so very many qualified people apply.

what type of questions did they ask at your interview specifically? No clinical questions is quite a relief compared to the horror stories I've heard about other programs interviewing processes.

Congrats BTW! Jen :)
