CRNA Salaries - Will They Drop?

Nursing Students SRNA

Just a quick question regarding the salaries of CRNAs. Currently, they're very well compensated for the job they do, and for good reason. However, I've heard in recent months that the salary of the average CRNA can be expected to drop a good deal over the coming years. I've heard reasons cited, but I forget what they were.

Is there truth to this? Is there some reason CRNA salaries will be dropping?

Lots of views; no discussion?

Supply and demand. Salaries will go up and down over the years.

Well I know that salaries can fluctuate like that and everything, but I swore I heard people discussing why they will soon have salaries slashed on the whole for one reason or another.

I would comment but my crystal ball is on the fritz.

as a future grad with loans to pay back-I would have to say yes, yes they will drop, don't bother applying and definitely don't think about graduating. ;)

on a serious note- "they" are predicting approx. a ten percent reduction in medicare reimbursement as currently planned. But, like piper for hire stated, no one has a crystal ball as to whether these proposed "cuts" will actually occur. -elections do have to occur after all. And this is one area the ASA and AANA agree on not being a good thing (imagine that:lol2:)

Okay, good to know - obviously money isn't the only factor to consider, but we all want to be well compensated for the job we do, which is why I wanted to look into it.

I suppose people in the medical field will always be compensated fairly well though.

I doubt it. They have done nothing but go up for years now.

As longs as people are getting paid to goto school and groups will sign contracts to first year students, not a chance of dropping salaries. Economically, the supply(CRNA) is way way less than the demand(JOBS) and I think it looks even better for the future as far as demand is concerned.

You have to ask how many vacancies are there right now? How many new CRNAs every year? How many CRNAs retire or leave clinical practice every year? How many new schools are being added? How many surgical procedures every year? blah blah blah I could go on and on.

without causing another thread to be re-opened or any anger .....There is another group out there that may help aleviate the shortage(jobs) of Anesthetist...this must be included in your outcomes ( whether salaries will drop)

I doubt AA's will make salaries drop, at my hospital they are doing and making the exact same thing as the CRNA's.
