CRNA Pre-Requisite Courses Houston

Nursing Students SRNA

Hi guys! I am wanting to go back to school for CRNA in 2020. I have been checking out schools I am interested in and noticed that a lot of schools want orgo or biochemistry (NOT entry level) within the last 5 years. I took both of these courses in undergraduate and got A's in both of them, but I graduated in 2012 :| I have been looking into Houston community colleges, would LOVE to find one online so I don't have to work around my work schedule to go to class. However, I am worried that I'm going to take one and it won't be what they're wanting/the credits won't transfer. Can someone who had to retake these courses tell me where they took them? Know of any acceptable online only courses?

Thank you in advance!

I took Organic Chemistry online this past spring through Oregon State University and used it to fulfill the prerequisite requirement for both UT Houston and Baylor. I really enjoyed the course and thought OSU did an awesome job of teaching through an online format.

The course definitely transferred? If so that would be perfect. I would prefer an online course. You didn't ever have to meet in person for exams or anything? Thanks again!

Also, I am looking at their course catalog right now and they have a LOT of courses with different course numbers that are all called simply "Organic Chemistry." Do you remember what your course number was? For example: CH331, CH332, CH334, CH335, and CH336 all just say "Organic Chemistry." PS-did you end up going to UT or Baylor?

I took CH331. There are multiple online quizzes that are open book/open note. There is a midterm exam and a final that must both be proctored. I used a testing center at a local community college to proctor the exams - there will be tons of places in Houston that you could use to proctor your exams. The professor video recorded his on campus course from the previous semester and uploads it to the online course portal. You follow along in the handout as if you were physically on campus - except you can pause & rewind the content which is almost better then attending in real life. And yes I will be starting at Baylor in January!

That all sounds great! Thank you so much for your help. Best of luck at Baylor :)

I'm also looking for online class. Do you know the Principles of Biochemistry (BITC 1403) from HCC is applicable to both UT Health and Baylor?

I can’t comment on UT, but Baylor requires Organic Chemistry. Your best bet is to email the schools to ensure the course meets the requirement before you enroll. Like I said, they accepted my online OSU O Chem course and it was a really great class!

I will email them and see. Thank you!

BoxFish, did you ever get a straight answer from UT Health on an acceptable online-only organic chemistry class? I emailed two separate email addresses to ask them about a particular online orgo class through MSUM, with no reply. When I finally just called to ask, a woman told me that taking the class online was acceptable, but that I would have to do the lab portion in person. Baylor just accepts online orgo without a lab component. Based on what they accepted for MrLimey above, I'm wondering if this woman from UT Health just gave me incorrect info, or if they changed their requirements??

AFwifeRN, I haven't got any answers either. No respond from school.

I'm curious about the crna schedule of classes. Is UT Houston mostly in person or online? I live in Dallas and don't want to move but I could commute back and forth if needed.
