Applying to Barry University Nurse Anesthesia Program for May 2020 cohort!! My GPA 3.89, ACLS/BLS/CCRN certified, 4 years of medical ICU experience.

Studying to take the GRE in May!

I am so nervous to apply. I am not good at standardized test.

Got my interview call the end of July for Aug 16 interview.

Congratulations! What were your stats? I am following but won't be applying for maybe another 2yrs or so. But starting to look at what I need now.

Congratulations to everyone!??Does any body mind sharing their stats ? I am aware the deadline is in November. I took the GRE and did horrible I got a 275. I have to retake it. I plan on taking the CCRN this next month. I am taking organic Chemistry in the fall. I’m also considering taking the intro into Anesthesia that Barry offers. My last 60 credit GPA is a 3.3. Should I apply with everything that’s missing ? Or should I apply at least after taking the CCRN?

I applied like the last week applications were being accepted. Was going to wait until this year but decided last minute there wasnt a good reason to wait. So spaces do fill up but a coworker and I both got in submitting applications that late. Point is if you really need to pad your resume you have time.

GPA was a 3.4 exactly, CCRN (Required), 2 years experience in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU, GRE 155Q 162V (I think they want at least 50th percentile in quantitative, with a total of over 300), didn't have the chem credit when I applied but got it after accepting (I highly recommend UNE, way cheaper than ANE if not as comprehensive, but I did well in Chemistry in undergrad so YMMV). Only one day of shadowing.

Hello,

I have an interview with Barry CRNA program next week. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what type of questions they were asked? Thanks!!

From what I've heard they were all over the place. I got barely any clinical questions and a lot of general interview questions. Some people had to answer for past academic history, I didn't get any of those either. One woman asked me if I'd ever taken care of Norwood, Glenn, and Fontan patients (Peds CICU). I said yes and there was no follow up. It was...interesting haha. Talking to my classmates they said if they got a lot of hard questions it was because they basically walked into it haha.

Congrats JanelKallie on landing the interview! Everyone’s interview is different but I had a few others at other schools and they generally ask the same things. Study and know your drips down to the receptor level. Study as if you’re  taking the CCRN certification exam. Be able to describe in detail the patient population you have experience with. Have a few stories in mind for behavioral interview questions such as a difficult patient or a time when you went above and beyond or had to think on your feet. Have an answer for leadership experience (precepting, charge nurse, etc). Practice your answers out loud - train your voice to sound clear and confident. Some people get random questions not nursing related just to get a feel for a curveball and how you react. Be calm, honest and positive. Anesthesia providers need emotional intelligence in order to succeed so that’s something else they will be looking for. Do your research on the school(stats, clinical rotations) so you can ask meaningful questions versus answers you can find on the website. Good luck! :)

Hi All!

I will be applying for the next application cycle but wondered if anyone had any pointers for the personal statement? Obviously the goal is to successfully complete the program but wondered if there were key things they wanted to hear as far as expectations of the program? Generally, how long were personal statements? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any current students on this forum? I'd like to know how you like the program and which campus you're attending?

Hi ? I’m in Orlando - it’s a tough but good program.  So far I’ve seen well-rounded clinical experiences and good people to work with for the most part. Sometimes students are used as staff when short, but independence makes us learn. The didactic portion is very rigorous. Some don’t make it. Staying dedicated, studying hard and nothing else going on in your life still makes it very hard but most people know that going in. Overall, I am enjoying my experience here and happy to be in this program.

Good day. Would you guys shed more insights on Barry's CRNA program and how it compares to other CRNA programs in Florida? (I was thinking about USF's). I will definitely try my best to apply for several schools, *crosses fingers* it may help boost my chances of getting into one. And also, I'm not sure if Barry uses Barry Hub anymore? I would be much appreciated of your response.
