critical care texts

Hey guys,

I'm working as a med-surg float RN right now and I love it, however within the next 6mos-1year I hope to transfer to the ICU float pool. I am looking for any suggestions, books or study guides to help brush up before getting there.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

I don't have this book in particular, but I have several others from the series and LOVE them. They make everything so easy to completely understand.

They are also great to prepare you for patient teaching as they are laid out in terms that are easy to explain to pts.

I have the ECG one and it has really helped me learn the basics of cardiac monitoring and learn about the most common arrhythmias and how to correct/treat them and when to not worry so much.

I second these books. Great reference! if you are looking for EKG practice, however, I would also look into ECG Workout by Jane Huff RN. It is very informative and also has a lot of practice strips. I find the ECG Interpretation Made Incredibly Easy book lacks on practice (but at the same time makes up in the wealth of knowledge it contains!)

The Manual of Critical Care Nursing (http://www.amazon.com/Manual-Critical-Care-Nursing-Interventions/dp/0323063764/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322660806&sr=8-1) is EXCELLENT. I have an older edition (this link is to the sixth edition which I believe is the most recent) but it is very informative and portable, too. It is also very easy to understand and I love how it contains nursing diagnoses with interventions to things you will see in the ICU.
