Hello. I am a Critical Care Nurse with 16 years experience and with an Associate Degree and starting a BSN bridge in the fall. I would like to relocate to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area from New Orleans. I am interested in working ICU or ER in level 1 trauma so I would like to know about UNC versus Duke. I had a phone interview recently with a head hunter from Duke who quoted me a pay rate that is between $35 and $36 for my experience level. I am currently between $33 and $34 in New Orleans. Interested in salary as well as cultures of the hospital good versus bad. Any comments would be welcome.

I think when it comes down to it, they are about the same. Some love one and hate the other. We have nurses that work at one and prn at the other. I am at Duke and I love it. Do not have any experience at UNC as a nurse.
I don't think you can wrong with either one. This is a great place to live. The two hospitals are REALLY close to one another. UNC has the burn unit. Obviously the basketball rivalry is fierce, but I think we all have respect for another as health care facilities.

You might want to try Wake Med Medical Center as well as the other two facilities.
