Critical Care Help

Published

Im a new grad working in the Medical ICU and I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on a good critical care nursing book that I can use to study. I find myself lost a lot of the times and I know I will learn with experience but I want to be able to know what to do when something goes wrong or what I should be looking for and so on. So I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

If you google CCRN you will find a ton of books that you can look at and decide which would be best for you. I suggest going to the AACN site and find reviews. Most hospitals require their nurses to become certified in their speciality and using those suggested study guides, review questions, etc will help you.

Happy hunting!

Have you asked your clinical educator? S/He can provide you with relevant resources that will be most valuable for your current role. Don't hesitate to ask physicians for reference/learning suggestions either. You may be surprised to find that most of them really like to 'teach'.

Since you appear to be committed to your development as an ICU nurse, you may want to consider investing in your own "Guyton". Pricey, but it's the premier reference for A&P as well as diagnostic & treatment options ... and purchase comes with access to the online Student Consult text. my first one was 10th edition, but I think the latest edition is 13.
