Hey everyone,
I just signed up to allnurses and hope to find someone who can give me an advice which I desperately need.
I am a German-trained nurse who is registered with the NMC and working in the United Kingdom. I am currently in the process of registration with the Texas Board of Nursing. Almost all steps have been done but I'm stuck with one thing: As a German nurse I had to do a credential evaluation which states that my Diploma in Nursing is comparable to one made in the United States.
BUT so far the credential evaluation service (IERF) did not find evidence of Human Growth and Development (generalist experience), Physical Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Obviously, I did have these fields because otherwise I wouldn't be registered with the NMC but the courses in Germany don't have these exact names.
My institution of study would be willing to provide evidence of this but this should be done in a detailed manner. Could anyone tell me how the subjects being taught in these three fields are called in the United States? That would help me a lot because if my nursing school sends another evidence to IERF that includes misleading course name translations I won't be able to get registered in time.
I'm hoping for your help.

Hi there. This process sounds very confusing & frustrating. I hope I can help, but keep in mind that there is a lot of variation, but I'm using the most common names for the classes.
Human Growth and Development -
Pre-Clinical: The classroom (basic science) portion of this content could be either psychology life science or psychology related. My guess is that they are referring to the life-science information because the psychology aspect would be considered under the "Social and Behavioral" category. So, if it is - life science information pertaining to the differences that occur across the lifespan, is incorporated into in Anatomy & Physiology (A & P) courses. Most programs require two semesters of A & P - each course has both lecture & lab.
Clinical : lecture classes (focusing on disease/illness & related care) must also include care of patients in all age groups & clinical training in obstetrics, pediatrics & geriatrics. Just to be on the safe side, you may want to provide detailed information about your clinical practicums in these areas to show that you have meet those requirements.
Physical Sciences - This category includes Chemistry (organic), Microbiology, Pharmacology & Nutrition. Baccalaureate programs generally require Statistics also. The Chemistry & Microbiology courses include both lecture & lab.
Social and Behavioral -
Pre-Clinical: Psychology & Sociology. Most nursing programs usually require classes (lecture) in both Intro to Psychology (an overview of major theories and research) and Developmental Psychology (Cognitive and behavioral changes associated with each phase of the lifespan). The required Sociology course is a general overview.
Clinical: classroom (lecture) & training experience in Behavioral Health (etiology and care of patients with psychiatric illness) is a requirement so be sure to provide information to show how you met this requirement.
Hope this helps a bit. Good luck with the bureaucracy.
Thank you very much, that was very helpful. I told my nursing school to emphasize these specific fields. I will let you know if I was successful.
Still, any further advice will be appreciated of course. :)
Thanks
