Crass supervisor grates my nerves to no end

Published

okay i just need to vent. i am a new nurse, currently in LTC. There is a one supervisor who simply grates my nerves everytime I hear her voice. Everytime she come to my floor I head in the opposite direction. She was also my preceptor. Let me say she is a great nurse, but her mannerisms leave so much to be desired. Shes loud, crass, curses constantly, barks orders, and just has horrible manners. Yet constantly brags about her own self. She is not my direct supervisor, but often comes to my floor to just sit down and talk gossip with the CNAs. I find her professionalism sorely lacking. I dont know if its our age difference, Im in my 40's and shes in her 20's. However I know many younger nurses who simply dont act this way at all... Our personalitys are truly a mismatch.

Sometimes, two people don't get along. If she comes on, or comes down your hallway, I would just say hello and keep working. There is one nurse at my work who is a good nurse and nice, but very gossipy/chatty. I love to gossip, but not at work. If I'm at the desk with her, I just turn my back and chart that way. If you have to go do something, say "oh, it's four already, i have to start my med pass" or "I should go to this treatment while I have a moment." If she tells me a story, I occasionally nod or say "hmm." And if a call light comes on, use it as a chance to escape.
