Couple questions about RN market for less experienced hires

Hi all,

I live in San Diego, CA and have been working at a convalescence hospital for a year and 8 months. I started as a charge nurse and was promoted to Restorative Nurse Coordinator after 6 months, where I handle admissions, etc. My educational background is a BS in Family Studies and a minor in pre-nursing, and an associates in nursing.

I think I'm ready at this point to move on to an acute care role, and have been applying to med surg, ED, and L&D. The San Diego market is awful and have had trouble making the transition.

I have family in both Phoenix and Tucson and am considering relocating to either if it means getting a job in one of these areas. Based on my profile, do I have a shot? Should I apply to new grad roles?

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Jesse!

I too, am from San Diego, currently in the phoenix area. I think the phoenix market is better than San diego(read-more opportunity), however still challenging to find opportunities. I would not apply as a new grad, you are an experienced nurse. I would highlight your charge nurse role and admission nurse role, I think it speaks volumes. The banner health system out here is huge, I would start there. The nice thing about phoenix is it is only 350 miles from home, easy to get away for the weekend:) good luck with the search!
