Good article but it doesn't go far enough. Making suggestions or recommendations isn't as good as creating standards. Every ER should have a pediatric airway bundle*, 6, 8 and 10F suction catheters, a pediatric drug manual, an adequate supply of 24G and 26G IV catheters, 6F and 8F Foley catheters, 5F and 8F nasogastric tubes, armboards, pediatric Posey restraints and most importantly, staff who have pediatric skills. Even the best of us have trouble putting an IV into a dehydrated infant.

*would contain ETTs both cuffed and uncuffed in sizes from 2.5 to 6, self-inflating BVM assemblies in neonatal and pediatric volumes, pediatric masks in sizes 0-3, small adult masks, OPAs from smallest to largest, aerosol masks in three sizes, non-rebreathers in 3 sizes, straight Miller laryngoscope blades in 55 mm, 80 mm and 170 mm lengths, a Macintosh laryngosocpe blade size 1, small and large Magill forceps...
