Hi, I'm looking for any OR nurses to talk to about work in Australia. I'm a Canadian OR nurse looking into obtaining a working visa. I'm wondering if the surgical instruments we use are named differently. (examples I suppose could be: belfour, snap, tonsils, L's, kelly, rounguer???) And if they are if anyone can suggest a good book that shows images of the instruments along with the names, I'd hate to show up and be totally lost!

I don't work in OR but I understand that we are still short of experienced OR nurses and would welcome you. I don't think the names are all that different as use American texts mostly.

I do work in OR and have done in NSW , Victoria and SA as well as in Hong Kong. Instrument names do vary from place to place, but, if you know what they are used for, and are following the procedure, it doesnt really matter what any one calls them. If you are up front when/if you make an error, most people are very understanding, its only a label after all. good luck
