Okay, well I have a friend that was 2 semesters behind me in Nursing School. Lately he's been kinda down, and I asked him, why so down you're about to be done with school! Well he told me he was worried that with his past criminal history, he wasn't going to be able to work in a Nursing Home which is what he really wants to do. Apparently he has a misdemeanor criminal coversion charge which how he explained it to me, it's quite theft, and isn't quite shoplifing, I guess it's the lowest charge for taking stuff that isn't yours that you can get.... anyways it's about 2 years old now, and they plan to work in Indiana. Well what do you guys think? I told him that I didn't have the answer but that I'd try to find out. Thanks for any help you could give.

I am not sure, but at my school in TX we fill out a declaration form. As long as he is honest from my understanding it should not be a problem. It becomes a problem if he tries to lie/hide his hx. I would talk to my advisor if it was me.
best of luck!
Thanks for the advice, I think his school already knows, he's just worried about AFTER school and AFTER the Nclex if he'll have problems finding a job... I hope not, he really is a great person and he knows what he did was wrong.

he must be honest with the bon after graduation and nclex. if not, they can deny him licensure. they will weigh the issue and collectively determine whether or not to liscense him.

that much i think he knows, okay, say for example he is honest with that bon and they do issue a license... lets say he goes to a job and fills out an application, he wants to know will the nursing home have a problem with the fact that he was a criminal conversion charge on his record. like... are there certain convictions that disqualify you from working in a nursing home?

I assume he has already reviewed his record with the state BON and knows that he is eligible for licensure (typically, misdemeanors are not a problem, although it depends on the details).
However, most employment applications ask about past criminal records and most healthcare employers do criminal background checks on potential employees (in my state, for certain types of healthcare facilities, including nursing homes, the state requires employers to do them). It will be entirely up to individual employers whether or not they choose to employ him. I'm not saying I'm sure his record will be a problem; just that there is no way to tell (in advance) whether it will be or not for any specific facility/employer ...

All criminal convictions have the potential to prevent you from being hired. It will always be up to the facility/institution to determine that.
I am sorry, there is no list of what will or will not be problems for him. I think that if the school and the BON have no problem and he maintains honesty with the potential employer, he will do fine.
Just be honest.

THANK YOU! And ya know what? I'm sure if he's honest with the facility BEFORE they run a backround check, that they'll consider that too. Well I'll have to let him know...
Thank you Siri!
Anytime. Hope this gives him some relief so he can be happy now.
