Nurses Recovery

So I am a recovering nurse in Illinois. My license was suspended for narcotic diversion and is now on probation for 2 years. I have been interviewing like crazy and have yet to find a job after 3 months. I am interested in doing an IT related field and thought of nursing informatics. Have any of you been in a similar situation? Is this something I should risk investing time and money on pursuing a master's in? Thanks!

I'm in Illinois also and dialysis companies are very recovery-friendly.

If you are interested in nursing informatics, I would actually look around in your area for positions before you invest in the degree. In a lot of areas, experience is more important than the MSN, so test the waters in your location. Make sure you like the role before you spend money on your education. Good luck!

I've applied to every one I know and never even got a call back. ?

I didn't think I would get hired without experience or degree, which I have neither. I'll give it a shot though.

Hey there, I'm also in IL and was just having a conversation about informatics today with a nurse who was doing Epic training. She said it's a great career, she'd been an Onc RN for 12 years and was getting burned out (I'm also an Onc RN). Are you under any monitoring at the moment? What makes you think you want to leave patient care altogether? I mean, I get it; I'm jsut curious about your reasons. Hang in there; I know it's tough!
I am under monitoring. I am having a terrible time finding work and all the prospective employers I talk to automatically shut down when I tell them I am in recovery and why. I also get recommended to pursue insurance/ desk jobs. Whatever I do, I want to further my education and advance in my career. Since I like technology i thought maybe informatics would be a good fit.
