Cost of living in Moose Factory as a nurse

Hi I have an interview for an RN position at WAHA specifically, Moose Factory and I am wondering about the cost of living up there. I have heard that you are given house allowance and food is expensive up there. Not sure if that is correct.

I am a fresh RN graduate, and I want challenges and would love to gain great experiences from working up north. I have heard that you may have to be independent very quickly, I was wondering if there are nurses currently working there that can tell me what to expect and the living expense in Moose factory.

Thanks

A friend of mine from way back lives there. Sounds like its give and take... For example food is generally a couple bucks more but daycare, for some reason, is much cheaper. She can't comment much on housing because it's paid for through work but she did mention houses seem to go cheaper.

Gas is more expensive but because there isn't much driving to do around the island I guess it doesn't matter much. She also says she saves a lot just because there's not much to do! So money she'd usually spend going out, doesn't get spent!

I'm not being very helpful haha but it sounds like it might even out because you save some here and lose some there!

She also did mention that she's heard hospital employees have similar benefits to what she has (groceries, OE at least housing at the very least) but of course can't confirm.

Good luck!

Thank you!!!

That helps a bit, so at least especially with paying back loans. I heard housing is subsidized for staff, but not sure by how much.
