Correct pronuncation of Muscle and Bones

Published

Hello All Nurses Community,

I am currently taking Anatomy this summer. I wanted to know if anyone knew of any websites that would pronounce the names of the bones and muscles. I love this class, but i would feel more confident if I knew how to pronounce them correctly. I do have lab, but between lecture and lab i don't know what instuctor is pronouncing them correctly. Help someone

Does the textbook you are using provide a website for further learning? Most do....if so they typically have a glossary section with wave files for audio. I know the AP books by Marieb has this function.

Specializes in IMCU.

Use this online dictionary.

It has a pronunciation key at the bottom of the page. You should be fine.

The likely answer is, both instructors are correct.

You will find pronunciation is a subjective topic. Your instructors may be pronouncing properly based on their experience and education. Words such as umbilicus can have different but proper pronunciations. The old tomato versus tomato argument. After spending time overseas, I have a new appreciation for both spelling and pronunciation.
